I have a suspicion maybe the scenario is he may have kicked a ball in a youth team or even a reserve environment and perhaps , and this is meant respectfully, travelling halfway across the world he embellished his story when there was absolutely no way of checking !

I have just looked in my EFC Bible, he must have been a reserve as he is not in any first team line up from 1920 to 1939 - found a George Martin & George Harrison though ......

Pre-internet and when they were particularly poor I did once claim to be a Man City squad /youth player so I’m not really in a position to judge Archie .

He came on sub for Everton Chile in 1931 cup game, scored the winner in 89th minute.

Got sent off for dropping his shorts and wind milling the away supporters.

It was his post Everton career. Being fit for active service after having played for Everton is a tough call. Surviving first day at the Somme had better odds.

Haha no not at all. I’m gathering he played in the 1920s-30s for us. Back then, if substitutes were used they weren’t recorded etc

Substitutes only came in the late 1960s, deffo no VAR for him though

Same suspicion here now tbh. He was clearly a professional footballer because I’ve now seen a team photo of him for a team called Metropolitan in the 1928 season. No idea who Metropolitan were either. But definitely not Everton so I’ve told her it might just be one of those immigrant family myths that has grown over the years because if he’s played for us in the 1920s there’s be definitely some record of it.
