This forum kept me sane for 8 difficult years of my life. People i have never met made me laugh, gave me hope and kept the darkness away.
When you start restricting words or opinions you close doors and avenues to opening your mind.
I love this club, i admire the fans and without it who knows where i would be.
Thats the serious bit.
I also believe in absolute freedom of speech. That includes the freedom to be offended too.
Many amazing posters have gone by the way side over the years. In my opinion a loss to us all.
If we are left with only perfect people who tiptoe around subject matters. The conversation will dry up and the fun will die.
Keep up the good work gentle peeps
Restrictions on what behaviours, including words and opinions, are considered acceptable is not something that has recently been started. There has always, in every single society and era, been a rough consensus on what is acceptable dependent on a huge number of fluctuating factors. Whether it's the Sicilian training camp of Scipio Africanus in 205 BC, the Court of Louis XVI in the dying months of the French Monarchy or Liverpool gravediggers in a Union meeting during the Winter of Discontent there were restrictions on what was considered acceptable behaviour and words or opinions that would have seen someone shown the door.....or worse.

All way before websites and this pesky snowflake wokeness came along.

Freedom of speech is widely available. Just because a particular site, forum or platform has their own rules on what is or isn't acceptable for them it doesn't mean you don't have that freedom. If people want to make certain statements, jokes or express any ideological views then regardless of what they are there will be a platform somewhere out there where you are free to do so and express the most outlandish opinions with all manner of individuals. More so than in any other period in history.

One particular site such as GOT, or any other, having rules regarding what is acceptable on their site in no way curtails anybody's freedom of speech. And if someone calls somebody else out on their views then they also are not restricting freedom of speech. Even in the ultimately unimportant world of football there are posts that would get likes on 19 PL clubs fansites but get me banned on 1.

If you truly believe in "absolute" freedom of speech then you have to accept there is the freedom to criticise, rebuke or even in some very rare circumstances be booted off a privately owned website. I don't see an awful lot of tiptoeing around subjects on GOT or perfect people - but I have seen some some pretty amazing views argued against. I've yet to see the conversation dry up or the fun die.

There are and always will be those who fall by various waysides despite repeated warnings that certain statements or behaviours aren't acceptable in a particular place. If they can't wrap their head around the idea that not everything is acceptable everywhere at all times then that's their own shortcomings coming to the fore - not the work of a new fangled restrictive woke conspiracy.

Not at all. I'd like to see balance represented b6 the BBC. What we get is incessant positive discrimination- which is as bad as any form of discrimination.

You watch so much BBC content to come to this conclusion?

Do you think white men are underrepresented?

Maybe it's just that multiple people think you're a bit of a crank.

Happy for you to ask the mods to check the IP address if you genuinely think I'm arsed enough to set up 2 accounts.
Not arsed to be fair. There's no other way I can think how that slip up happened and u doubt you have the wit to think one up. Carry on trolling you sad multi if you've nothing constructive to do with your short time on the planet.

Depend on what you would feel as the correct representation I suppose.

Black and ethnic minorities are in fact over represented as per head of population. It bizarrely compares itself to the US for representation sometimes where the racial split is widely different.

It would now be a rare thing indeed for there to be a group of people on television these days and all of them to be white, as if this cannot happen in real life.

I've not said that lobster oglop*. I suggest you read what I actually wrote a bit better.

*on the basis that the passive aggressive questioning trope smells the same.

What? Just asking a genuine question mate.

You said you'd like to see balance in the BBC. I'm just asking you how you've come to the conclusion that there's too much positive discrimination and who do you think is underrepresented?

Having to change the name of Midget gems is taking the piss, ridiculous I bet not one single dwarf has ever been offended by midget gems ffs lol am I allowed to call them dwarves, acceptable terminology changes all the time, don't want to offend any small people lol
There is a semantical argument to be had about whether "midget" can be used as a term to describe small objects completely independent of and with no connotations to people of an unusually short stature so there could be a point there regarding Midget Gems. I doubt it but like I say...semantics.

But your claim about acceptable terminology and not wanting to offend can very quickly be Googled and literally the first page shows results that clearly highlight many people with dwarfism have a problem with "midget" as a term so I imagine a few might have issue with "Midget Gems".

As such I'd recommend you leave off taking bets.
