3 signings address an obvious weakness and on paper improve the team significantly.

It's still a bloated squad that needs addressing. Hopefully we'll see some outs soon, and hopefully it'll be deadwood rather than a 1st team player to balance the books. You'd hope to see the likes of Pennington, Besic, Bolasie, Bernard or Iwobi, Ramirez, Tosun moved on as a minimum.

With the deadwood removed and the 3 signings we've improved our squad considerably. It is still a squad with significant weaknesses. I'm not convinced by the GK, depth at RB or LB, and our core of CBs. There's also a Q mark about depth at CF and the ability of DCL, Kean and Richarlison to get the goals required on a consistent basis.

However, Rome wasn't built in a day. It's fine to acknowledge the good transfer window we look to be having but also still recognise the holes we still have in the squad. Even with the improvements I think we are in a pack of 5 or 6 teams who'll be looking to challenge for 5-9th (Arsenal, Tottenham, Wolves, Leicester, us). I actually don't think there's much between these teams though we finished below all of them by +7 points last season. I also think Southampton might surprise a few people this season and challenge for a top 10 place.

I think 5th to 9th is a good aspiration to have. Aiming for 60+ points after getting 49 the season before is a reasonable leap. Whilst I'm happy with the window I don't think it necessarily catapults anyone into thinking Top 6 is a must. I think it gives us a fighting chance of getting a Europa League place and makes the squad more comparable in quality to the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Wolves, Leicester (though I still think weaker than the 2 London clubs who will have aspirations of Top 4).

Very pleased that the obvious problem of our midfield has been ripped up and replaced.

Still a few areas of concern though

  • Think we are in dire need of a goalkeeper to challenge Pickford as we cannot afford for him to undermine everything again this season.
  • If James is playing on the right, we really need a dynamic right back otherwise we are going to have next to no attacking width on that side
  • We aren't sure if Nkounkou will be ready to cover for Digne this season - a left back on loan might be sensible
  • Beginning to look like Holgate and Mina can't be relied upon to stay fit, so a centre back (maybe on loan to allow Branthwaite and Gibson to go out and get 1st team football) seems sensible
I'd love a winger and a striker too, but you can't do everything in one window. Most importantly there are a number of players I'd like to see shipped out in order that there is no danger I have to see them in an Everton shirt again.

So far though, so good.

Yeah I'm very happy . A few loans and a cheeky goalie would be the huge cherry on the top but if got no more incomings but we get rid of sick note Delph and the crab I'd say this window is a huge success .
Keep Besic

To be fair. our last accounts showed a ridiculous percentage of income was spent on Wages. It was at a completely unsustainable level.
Players will have to go. It will now be more important than any new signings. I doubt there will be any more ins untill about four or five have been moved on, Tomori excepting. Reading the reports though, it feels like we are on with this Anyway.

of course players do have to go. But to say we will do a Leeds due to wages is lunacy

Extremely happy.
We actually have, on paper at least, a midfield worthy of the shirt.

For the first time in many a year I'm looking forward to the season starting. Of course we will completely Everton it by October but I can't remember last time I felt this positive on the eve of a new season

Onwards and upwards blues.

Very Hamez at the moment, will be extremely Hamez if/when we shift some of the wasters and put it towards another couple of signings

One thing I would like to stress to folk is that if we don't hit the ground running try and refrain from thinking it's same old Everton etc, even ready made quality in the 3 boys we've brought in can take a few weeks/months to get used to their new surroundings. Think with the lack of pre-season a lot of teams are gonna be off the pace.
