What did he do? The replay didn't look like it was anything obviously serious.

It's hard to tell, he jarred his knee when he planted his foot down after the tackle but then his ankle looked quite floppy when he had his hands on his leg.

Looked like he caught the defenders leg on the way down which twisted it on landing. You can see the direction change right as he plants his foot and must strain something

Yeah, definitely unlucky if it is a season ender.
