I think that if there is a certain amount of time left on a contract then the buyout is the remaining wage that the player would have earned upto the contract end.

Might not be correct though, and a bit off topic.

I know some love to blame the club for everything, but in this instance it isn't their fault that the player did a complete U-turn.

I wouldnt worry about the topic of this thread, THE BAD SNAKE!

But then I would imagine the club would also have the player on the hook for any transfer fee they paid.

There must be a reason players never buy out their contracts.

I know Neymar did, in a way, but I think that was a release clause.

If a contract is terminated without just cause, the person in breach will have to pay compensation.

He might be able to argue he had just cause as he signed on expecting to play under Frank.
Ultimately I expect it’s all academic as
1) he prob hadn’t signed regardless of the stories,
2) as I said in an earlier post if it’s just his registration that didn’t land at the FA we can’t play him anyway but would likely still be liable to pay him

Contracts can have all sorts of clauses included. The contract in this instance would have only come into effect once the player registered. So it doesn't matter if the contract was signed or not.
