Arrested in Thailand

Hi everyone.

I've been arrested in ko phangan possession 0.374g of methamphetamine. I was at a party and soldiers set up a checkpoint searched everyone, found it on ground and blamed me.

I've been in ko phangan jail for past few days and now ko samui court trying to post bail.

I don't know if anyone can help or advise in any way but I'm really scared and I don't know what to do.
I'm innocent but they said 2 years to fight case or plead guilty and maybe go home quicker but also likely jail too.

I have a lawyer but if anyone has connections over here or even as support please let me know.

I'm on Facebook Daniel Duncan Frank Drebin

My Thai number is +66654808677

Don't know how much longer I will have a phone. If nothing else please send prayers and positive thoughts.

(If being genuine) do NOT plead guilty under any circumstances if you haven't committed the crime. People are lured into this all the time as it is presented as the quick and easy solution, when in reality in can be a massive problem.

You need consular support as soon as possible.

Best of luck mate. I always dread those checkpoints when I'm in Bangkok even though I never carry anything on me and would never touch drugs on foreign soil.

Thinking of you xx

Unfortunately I am very genuine, not a very funny joke if not.

Thanks for all your advice and positive thoughts.

... Only advice I could give mate is make contact the UK consulate in Thailand (assuming you are a British citizen) as soon as possible if you haven't done so already. Also contact your travel insurance provider, they may also be able to help re putting you in touch with good legal help in Thailand.

As much as possible insist on having a lawyer present for any questioning. As said above, don't feel pressured into making statements to the police.

They kept me awake for 2 nights and said I couldn't see the embassy until I signed the police statement. The interrogation was brutal.

At least I have a lawyer now, I think I made bail 40,000 bht. Have to wait another 4 hours to be processed and find out conditions.

I am, however, surprised that the Thai police refused to let you see the embassy until you sign a statement, yet they don't have a problem with you accessing WiFi to post on a football forum?

The IP of @Diogenes the Cynic is posting from is in Thailand with no spoofing services detected on it. Decent chance he is being genuine here.

I've no doubt that he is genuine. Whilst certain vices are allowed, they're unreasonably tough on other vices. Drugs being one of them - and unfortunately the local plod always appreciates a chance to get their face in the news whilst standing behind a supposedly guilty farang.

Of course I still recommend going to Thailand.
