Arrested in Thailand

Just got pulled in by the police for riding motorbike without a helmet.

Literally 75% of people on the road have no helmet, i genuinely thought it was optional.

Obviously just a chance to get cash off tourists but I was bricking it being back in the station, if they ran my name I'd be back inside.

500bht fine and free to go. Hopefully that is the end of matter and lesson learned, should have checked the laws. I thought they were going to ask to see my licence which as I don't have one could have made things even worse.
 
Haha. Come on lad. Even though most of 'um don't wear a helmet it's still required and they do spot checks / pull in random people. I got 'done' in the Philippines, but funnily enough they didn't want any money off me and just gave me a warning. The way you're going on, you're deffo gonna end up in frtonf of the firing squad within a few months!

Yeah completely my fault for not knowing the law of the country.

When I first rented one in Koh Phangan they didn't even offer me a helmet though so I made the mistake of assuming it wasn't a requirement.

I'm going to write a book, "How not to holiday in Thailand."

Also they gave me my key back to ride away without a helmet which I was dubious about but I just sped away and didn't look back.

I think its best you just don't leave the house in future haha, they defo just target tourists there don't they, easy money

Not easy money for me, I've lost my bank cards and only managed to get a western union transfer this morning before I gave my passport back.

If I didn't have the cash could have been much worse I think.

I blame the 4 Dutch riding like idiots in front of me, i was hanging back because they were too much of a liability to overtake. Koeman, Klaasen and now this.

If it wasn't for 2Unlimited and the Vengaboys I'd be pretty annoyed at the Netherlands right now.

The initial story I believed... getting pulled for wearing no helmet on a bike seems to unlikely a scenario following your recent troubles.
