If he did go, I'd go all out for Banega. He is the only mentioned on here who could replicate his role.
I'd rather Arteta like.

No, if you can't control possession and during last 2 seasons we saw he we do it (or more - not do it) when we are playing without top deep playmaker like Arteta. Were the RS not recently sniffing around Defour? I agree that Donovan doesnt fill the hole Arteta would leave behind, but surely attacking creativity is more important than looking for a deep lying playmaker seeing as free spaces at the back of a midfield 5 are already at a premium? As long as any move is made soon and we have time to look for someone else, i'd totally back Mikel if he wanted to give Barca a few years. Prob his best chance at getting long overdue Spain caps too..

Valencia won't be asking for anything, there's a reason why Barcelona isn't interested in Banega, because they know he's not for sale. Valencia will compete in Champions League and Banega is the most important player in their current re-building mode
If Arteta transfer would happen, Barcelona IMHO would pay us for him around 20 milion euros, so we should have some money available after acquiring Mikel's replacement.
Okay, so Barcelona isn't interested in Banega, because he is not for sale and players seem to be relatively happy being there, with a Champions League competition ahead of him, as well as having team build around himself. To be honest if Barcelona were interested in Banega it wouldn't matter if he wasn't for sale or not. Just as in the case of Fabregas. If a club wants a player they will make enquiries and push it as far as they can, regardless of whether the players club want to sell or not.
That's true, Arteta's is a much more disciplined playmaker, Fabregas is more of a drifter, he likes to play further forward. For a playmaker, Arteta's defensive game is very capable, and in Spain the role is more about positioning and distribution, certainly in Barca's case, who always dominate possession.
I doubt this is true though.
