Arteta Agrees New Five Year Deal !!!

I'm sure Arteta will play for spain at some point.

Even if it's only 1 or 2 friendlies, he'll get there.

Providing he doesn't sign for Manchester City that is

I think even he realises that there is no way he could get in the Spain squad - the players in his way for a starting place (Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Busquets) are just too good and mostly play together for Barcelona already (except Xabi obviously), and the up-and-coming players (Mata, Martinez, Fabregas) are quite a bit younger than him. Arteta is a great player, and I dont mean to belittle him, but (for instance) Xavi is a step up from him.

As for the la Liga bias, I think its more because the best Spanish players in most positions do play in la Liga - Reina is a good keeper, but Casillas is probably the best keeper in the world and has been for several years.

Casillas is inconsistent in my opinion. He has spells where he's no where near the top keepers in the world, but then at the same time he can go absolutely crazy and stop 25 certain goals in a game. I think Reina is massively underrated, he's at the same level as Casillas in my opinion. What outrage there would be tho if the Real and Barca keepers were overlooked in favour of a Premier League player.

May well be better players in the Spanish team but that doesn't excuse overlooking a fine talent and giving him no chance to prove it at that level. Incredibly naive on the part of the Spanish coach I believe.

Manchester City unlikely to pursue Arteta

04:00 PM 08 July, 2010

Manchester City Football Club are unlikely to pursue their interest in Mikel Arteta.

The big-spending Blues have been heavily linked with the Spaniard in recent weeks, as Roberto Mancini continues to build a squad capable of a title challenge.

But with David Silva of Valencia and Barcelona’s Yaya Toure already snapped up, and James Milner set to follow from Aston Villa, their midfield is almost complete.

The Independent claim City will therefore end their interest in Arteta, who could now be set for a bumper new contract at Everton.

Oh please, God.

In writing please!
