Arteta Remembrance Thread

I will miss Mikky because he's been a great one for us. A fighter, yet humble and loyal.

But I think this might be good for him and for us. At the Emirates he gets a final shot playing at the top level and he definitely deserved that. It could have been with us if decisions were made correctly. Can't blame him for being ambitious and that we simply cannot give him what he apparently wants.

On the other hand, I think Mikky's days were numbered with us anyway. In midfield, he's got mighty competition not only by Fellaini who is simply boss, but also by Rodwell who will need to step up this season and by young Barkley who looks like he's the best thing to happen to us - maybe even bigger than Rooney. As Moyes did not go for small, quick strikers who run in the hole but tall strikers who get the headers. I am certain that Drenthe + Baines + Seamie will do an excellent job feeding Denis/Vellios/Anichebe with quality crosses.

Well but still ... I miss Mikky.

FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW. Hope I can jet over to Merseyside for the home game against Le Arse :)

I wish only failure for Arteta at Arsenal, as far as I know he went out of his way to push a move through and jumped ship. mercenary just like the rest. sickens me that people are putting him at legendary status, disrespectful to the likes of Ferguson, Sharp, Ratcliffe and Cahill.

Wash your mouth out with soap, then give your head a shake.

I wish for only failure at Arsenal - because I dislike Arsenal.

Pretty sure it's not about the money. Arsenal won't offer much more in terms of wages, more about champions league football and a chance of winning something.

What annoys me the most is all the tits who were commenting on this site's facebook page last night saying how Arteta is a 'tw**' and how greedy he is. Idiots.
Agreed, once they started to negotiate a price for him he had no need to want to stay

He deserve his chance at CL and your forgetting he is nearl 30 and his valuation will be alot less once he hits 30. He's been a great servant to the club. He could of left a few years ago but didn't. He probably done the club a massive favour saiving us 15.6 mil over 4 years for a player that is injury prone and totally off form. CL to the lad

That's totally out of order, this was in no means the same as Lescott's saga for instance. Arteta has left, and albeit in the last hour, he did not complain nor did he winge about us rejecting bids. But at the end of the day, he's getting older now and for his family's sake he probably wanted more money and knew in the back of his mind that him leaving would help us clear some debts aswell.

I didn't post this earlier as the Kenwright Out mob will jump down my throat, but clearing £15m off the club debts makes EFC a more attractive vehicle for any potential investors.

Hard game and tough to take, but the only way to raise these funds is through player sales as we're not commercially savvy and don't raise sufficient matchday revenue.

I think you'll find that's what 'the Kenright out mob' are saying. Which leads me to wonder how you can see yourself distinct from them?

It was jumping ship, mate. Cahill, Jags and Baines did not try to force through moves when the potential arrived, Arteta let everyone down.

All I can say is thanks for the memories and the best of luck to Mikel and his family for the future.

It hurts but I fully understand him wanting another challenge and European football , It is a shame our club cannot provide and match his ambitions. It is a sad indictment of what our once proud club has become.

Cheers Mikel. Class act. I confess when we signed him i was a doubter. I thought he was lightweight and a bit of a bottler from the evidence I'd seen from his Rangers days (he had that reputation up there). But he's been the best player we signed bar none since probably Kanchelskis, imo. Cant wait to see him in the CL.
