Arteta Remembrance Thread

Thanks for the derby goal, for helping us get 4th in 04-05 (couldn't have done it without you), thanks for the most magical goal I've ever seen at Goodison against Fiorentina, that incredible goal against bolton, 6 and a half years of loyal service (don't blame you for any demands you eventually made), thanks for being so cool against blackburn in your last game, thanks for being our quality player all the way through and making opposition **** themselves when they saw you on the team sheet. But most of all, thank you David Moyes for bringing in a player who lit up goodison on so many occasions and gave us a little taste of what watching everton in the 80s must have felt like.

If some believe Cahill should have a statue, then this man deserves some rememberence too. Loved this guy. People say he wasn't performing anyway and he'll be no loss, but he was our most talented player by a country mile. I have a feeling we won't know what we had until now. We've been spoilt lads.

See ya Arteta. Thanks for the memorys. But I´m glad it wasn´t Bains or Felliani, think we had the best from him TBH.He was always injured for half the season lately and out of form for the rest.So good luck to him.

bids did come in for at the start of last summer, mate. poor timing from Mikel.

We could have sold him at the start of the window but it doesn't change the fact the money was going to the bank. Makes no difference when it went through. Great move for him personally at this stage of his career.

why are you so upset? he a 30 year old(well nearly) thats been **** for 2 years?
I'm not devestated he's gone, we actually play better without him, I just dont think he timed things right and I don't believe players who wanted out deserve legendary status that people are painting him with, that's just the type of small time thing I don't like to see associated with Everton

in fairness we probadly got him during his best years terrific player for us sad to see him go but him asking to go is sicking and for that cant wish him the best toffees for ever!

Im fairly sure the Board have sat on the Arteta bid for longer than Deadline Day, then Bingo, they tell Arteta at 10pm on Deadline Day and leave unopened final demand bills on the table.

The Club has an MO concerning Transfers, it would be funny if it wasnt so sad.

well said-) here here

My favourite player since I have started supporting Everton , gutted , being in the Gwladys that night against Fiorentina , his goal against the RS last season and that strike against Bolton a few seasons back are the memories that spring to mind .

I fear this upcoming Derby. We could be seriously mauled.

"That is the way football is, there is always a start and an end and today is the end of probably the best time of my career. I am never going to forget it. Obviously I am never going to forget what I have done here and what the people and this club have done for me.'

Cut to the chase:
1. He gave us some wonderful memories
2. He couldn't half play football (albeit with a small allowance for when he didn't deliver the perfect cross/corner/free-kick)
3. We had the best of him
4. He (in a sense) screwed Arsenal at their most vulnerable moment (so we gained £10M - all profit - and cut £4M off the wage bill)

The club allowed him to talk to Arsenal earlier in the day so they sanctioned that - no matter what you think it seems Arsenal wanted him, Everton agreed he could talk - perhaps at that stage he was in two minds so wasn't prepared to go for less than his current wage (fair enough). Then either he reconsidered or his agent said the full deal (signing on fee, bonuses) etc. was too good to avoid at this stage of his career. At this point he probably came back to Moyes and said I've had a change of heart, it seems you may not want me etc. etc.

There's no way Arsenal would have moved in for him if Cesc and Nasri hadn't gone - and the previous offers were derisory. So we got a good wedge, we got the best years from the guy and, even if you imagine we might have got a replacement we probably would still have found some reason to not spend it.. so whilst you may not like it we move on with £16M banked and around £6M cut from the wage bill (3 out 2 in). All in all not a bad day if we can progress from here and perhaps spend a bit of that in January.
