All the best to him, one of my favourite players and it was great to see a proper footballer play for our club rather than some of the rubbish we watched in the 90's. I dont for one minute think he forced a move to Arsenal, the board should be ashamed of themselves.

Even if Arteta did force a move, its still the boards fault. Why would any player choose Everton over Arsenal at the moment, we have just played two teams who are favourites (well were) to be relegated and deserved to lose against both of them! We are skint, and are just trying to stay mid table this season, probably fighting it out with Newcastle and Stoke. I cant blame any player for asking to leave after the shambles of this transfer window.

I think we all know who to blame for Arteta leaving and that would be...Udinese. If those silly Italians could have knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League this move would never have happened. Stupid Udinese.

He wasn't looking to get out of the club but once the offer came in from Arsenal he felt he had to go for it. It's not like he demanded to leave and then an offer came in.

I think this is about perspective, context and loaylty. On a personal level i dont begrudge Mikel this move, hes been a great servent, has had a huge contribution in moving the club from the depths of gashness and a major contributor to great days, he has been massively loyal and that important - he got Everton and gave us so much. He deserves the chance to play in the CL and be in with a shout of Spain at this stage of his career. Like everyone else i am gutted, largely because of the above.

I want to qualify a few things though, i think the club didnt want to let him go and i think both the club and management had been planning on him staying, i think Mikel wanted the move and the club (on some level) recognised his loaylty and will and agreed to the sale. I always felt this was his last season with us - if he had stayed.

Heres the pinch though - its a woefull deal for Everton, if the reported fee is 10 million, he is easliy worth 8-10 mill on top of that. Added to that it went to the deadline we had no hope of getting anyone in - its not like we havnt been in that position before, we should have had something lined up - given that the news was rumbleing on throughout the day. Lets not kid ourselves that this served our buissness interests - not so much the fee for me - but Arteta wages were a huge draw on the club that we couldnt afford - by selling Arteta we have closed the reported 5mill in annual losses we are supposed to make in wages alone. Whatever you beleive about the running of the club and the intent of those doing it, that couldnt continue. I can see why the deal was consented to.

From a footballing perspective, lets be honest we are all worried, we have lost our muse, we are going to have to ask questions of players like Mofro, Barkley and Rodwell - and there needs to be big answers. Baines should flourish on set peices duty. We should now play a far more direct style of football that wont be as easy on the eye, the question remains though will it be effective. As for the lads who came in - who knows, no one if there being honest. But then i remember selling Graveson to Madrid and people baracking the light weight Spaniard we had brought in on loan.

One step bnack to take a few forward - lets hope so.

Just read Arteta's comments....

Best of luck to him, and all that, but for him to basically say 'Oh well, that's football' is a bit of a kick in the nuts. He certainly doesn't seem too cut up about leaving, and it seems he took a pay cut to join Arsenal.
I'd have liked some thanks. How he'll miss the fans, the club and thanks them for everything they have done for him, wishes them well....that sort of thing.

Not just a metaphorical shrug of the shoulders. I expected a little more from him, to be honest.

blue berry - so you think Arteta wanted to leave?

If no offer had come in, no I don't think he was looking to go, but as soon as a CL side came in, yes, absolutely. He took a £15k pw cut to go ffs! I'm gutted we only got £10m, and I think that is something you can tag to Kenwright/the board (us being in dire straits an all), but if Moyes had wanted him to stay (which it's clear he did), then I don't see that the board would have forced that, unless we were talking about £15-20m - in which case I'm sure Moyes would have grudgingly accepted it too.

Disagree. Fellaini is a football player. Barkley is a football player. Rodwell when he puts shift in can be a football player.

We can be direct. But we can also play football with them in midfield.

I blame the board. They'll be loving the fact they got a nice wedge with no opportunity to be forced to spend it. Its made them feel more secure. Top and bottom of it.

Not a penny have Kenwright etc put in to Everton to make it more PROFITABLE and boost commercial revenues. Where the hell is this Annex building?

They love TV money. Its lazy. Its amaturish. This deal is a deal too far in my book.

As bad as the Duncan Ferguson to Newcastle castration.
