Arteta Remembrance Thread

I am with those who say that he really should have stated that he wanted to leave from the start. That way we could at least have a shot at a cut-price "replacement." Either way he's gone now, I am a little sad about it, but no player is bigger than the club. So it's time to move on.

That's the only thing that frustrated me about all of this. He wanted to leave, but he waited till the last hour to do so; it gave us no chance to replace him.

Drenthe? there is clearly more to this than meets the eye.

Moyes signing a winger, on the day our most creative player leaves... and a tall, meaty striker.

Hello hoofball.

No problem with him leaving if thats what he wanted to do but why wait till the midnight hour to do so?

But oh well good luck to him

Nothing negative to say about Arteta (other than the last season in a blue shirt was pretty poor).

I think the move was mutual all round, no matter what people say. 10 million for a 29 year old on top wages who hasn't been playing like he used to is good money.

People saying he resorted to dodgy tactics asking to leave on the last day are missing the point. The fabregas deal had more to do with this move and the timing of it than anything else.

If anything this transfer will doubtlessly prove to be Mikel Arteta's last gift to the blues. Shame the money is mostly going to the banks.

For me he was an Evertonian legend and remains one.

Best player we've had in twenty years? I keep saying it, but I'm struggling to think of anyone better. Certainly anyone more cultured.

Good luck to him and his family in London.

If I ever see him in the street I'm gonna ask him for an autograph.

When he retires he'll be forever blue - arsenal wont get a look in.

Arterta put a transfer request in.

AN HOUR BEFORE THE DEADLINE.

The deal had looked dead after talks between the two clubs broke down but it was revived soon after Arteta handed in his transfer request an hour before the deadline.

Its a massive end of an era. He's been with us since I was 15. I just wanna hug him and tell him it's ok and I understand why he did what he did whilst we both sob uncontrollably to the sweet tones of Mariah Carey.

The amount of times he let us down and just did not show up for the bigger games.
Great against ****e teams.

I said this a couple years ago and got some crap for it. It is true. He'd have a hattrick against a newly promoted team, but go missing entirely against a top 6 opponent. I don't know if that was pressure getting to him or better teams shutting him down, but either way, it was a factor in him reaching his potential the last few years.

Personally I believe this will be a great move for him though. He will go to a team with more weapons, and one that plays his style of football. I expect him to have a great season.

Hahaaaaa

Maybe so. Only because Arsenal came in for him then, because the Fabragas/ Nasri deals took so long.

Maybe he realised that he just isn't playing at the level he used to (form of the last year or so would concur with that). Maybe he decided he'd rather be gash and take the wages off of Arsenal than Everton.

I can just see Evertonians being dead happy seeing Arteta play like ****e on 75k a week for another four years.

Many people trying to engineer hatred of Arteta. I think history will prove he's done us a favour - now and all those years of quality football we got from him.

As do I, mate. He was one of a kind.

Hopefully Moyes will get three or four million along the way to invest in a replacement cultured midfielder. We need a creative force more than ever - if only to help dry our eyes.

It'll be a xmas miracle if we have the money in January to buy anyone.

When that deal went through last night I was in a state of shock and disbelief, praying that we at least brought in a replacement.

I'm gutted that Mikel has gone, but it really is the last time in his career to be at a club playing Champions League football and I think anybody would have done the same in his position.

Thanks for the memories Mikel, I will always remember you as the best little spaniard.

I hope he enjoys every success at Arsenal and show how good a player he is.

To be fair I am gutted to see Mikel go but life and Everton will go on. We have coped without him for large parts of the past two seasons and played very well in that time, Little Leon stood up to the plate last year and we now have a young and very talented lad coming through the ranks.

Yes we would have liked more money but it is what it is and we can do **** all about it. We will save £££'s on wages and hopefully our two loan signings will have an immediate impact, they have got a week or so to settle in before the next game and I am looking forward to us having a left footed player galloping down the flanks with Baines snapping at his heels delivering balls into the box for a tall forward to actually try to get on the end instead of having a lazy waste of space waiving his arms about when somebody breathes on him for 5 feet away (Vic I'm looking at YOU).

Time will tell how things work out but one thing is for sure, I will still love Everton long after the likes of Mikel, Baines and Cahill have moved on and I am sure 99% of you will too.
