Arteta

Think ur seeing with the likes of arteta and lampard that you can’t just give a rookie a shot at a top side - can only think of it working with guardiola in modern times and he was blessed with the greatest player of all time coming through the ranks

Guardiola was in charge of the kids for a couple of years prior, though interestingly the only impact promotions he would have touched were Busquets and Pedro. He bricked a lot of signings along the way as well, though he did get Alves early and heisted Pique from SAF.

You could argue that it would be hard to lose if you had Xavi, Iniesta and Messi at your disposal along with core pieces like Puyol and Valdes. To his credit, he found a uniquely Barca way to win with them.

In general, I think that handling the media-manager relationship is too much to ask of even the most experienced players (and sometimes even the most experienced managers - see Moyes, David) taking over the big chair inside one of the media fishbowls. They need some space to learn through mistakes without that level of scrutiny.

So would anyone still take him for the Don Carlo now? Arteta was a great player, and a great number 2 to Guardiola at city. But being the actual man in charge, is a totally different kettle of fish. We dodged a bullet here no doubt.

I wouldn't have taken him over Carlo then. Hiring Ancelotti was a statement that the club's motto was for real.

Yeah, that doesn't work. Pep is one of the best managers of all time. Larry the Cable Guy could have been his number 2 and, by your definition, been "great"
All im saying is that you must have something going for you, to be assistant manager to Guardiola at Man City. So im not sure what your point is. Being the actual manager as i say, is another story entirely though.

Arsenal fans were always moaning about top 4, so they must be over the moon to be looking like they may end 8th or lower, little odd that Arteta seems to be getting away without any real criticism, Its not like he has a lot of bad players, he has many attacking players that should have them doing way better than they are

You've just answered your own question, being a manager is another story and Arteta isn't cutting it, you haven't explained what he brought to the party as a City No.2, allow me to tell you, he was a mate of Pep's who helped to put the cones out.

The guy is literally like Teflon. He’s properly screwing them up, being a total bellend about it yet he’s still being bigged up by the press. I don’t understand it

It's in the press interest for it to work.

Arsenal are still a media favourite with a big following, coupled with the prospect of pep's disciple taking his apprenticeship and then having success at a (relative) sleeping giant is a great story.

That post is tinfoil hat wearing territory, and the fact that a kopite in all but name liked it, kind of says it all. Manchester City are the greatest side of the last decade, so you would need to have certain qualities about you, to be assistant manger there. I think you have an agenda here with Arteta being a former Rangers player. Seriously that post is so stupid, it's just beyond contempt to be honest with you.

Numerous posters have now asked you what his 'certain' qualities as you call it actually are, and you can't actually tell us, it is irrespective who he formerly played for as the fact I think he was a good player throughout his career nullifies that.
The only hat you're ever likely to wear is that of a dunce .
So once again what are his qualities that qualify him as the world class coach you claim him to be ?
@riddick , mate are you aware Corky, the renowned poster who supports a team managed by Gerrard is claiming you're a kopite?

I was on about @artetas_biggest_fan an ironic username really, considering that he liked a post disrespecting the man. The qualities he has are the qualities that Man City, deemed to be worthy enough for them to hire him as assistant manager.

It would be interesting to see how many of Fergies number 2 went on to be great managers. That would be my precedent
