Ashley Williams

Distin to the surprise of many fans was a great signing however Distin was a fantastic athlete and managed to keep his speed for longer than almost any footballer I've seen. Very few footballers manage to be in the physical shape that Distin was in at his age.

Just because Distin was able to play to a good level to such an age doesn't many Ashley Williams will.

Our team lacks height at the back. For me there is no way Williams and Jagielka play together as CB.

Is he worth £10m? He's a known quantity who'll do a job for a couple of years. We could spend £40m on Koulibaly only to find he can't do it in the Premier League. There's a lack of convincing CBs around at the moment, so it's a seller's market, hence £50m for Stones...

Whilst heights always good to have mate, it's more than just that, problem with us isn't being small as such, Willaims is 6'0 stones i think si 6'2 or 6'3 but is rubbish in the air IMO, Cahill was brillaint and a little midget, it's about how they defned moreso than just having a bit of height

In the past an Everton manager was given about three seasons to build a team. This had to be done carefully and slowly because of lacks of funds.
Resale value was what we all looked at whenever a player was signed.

Times have changed. Koeman wants to put a team together now, a team to challenge this season.
Ashley Williams would be such a signing, if it were to happen(I am surprised that Arsenal have not tried to get him).
A good defender, a leader in the team and probably has another three or four seasons at his best left in him.

The possibility of having lots of money to spend seems to have brought about a transfer snobbery amongst some Evertonians, if he isn't a big footballing name then we don't want him.

I think it's a cunning plan. Get Ashley in then he can tell Gareth bale what a great club it is to play for .. And he signs in January when we're sitting top of the league :celebrate:

Only thing that puts me off is his age, he's a good old fashioned CB nothing wrong with that, just a bit of a meh signing.

He's got at least 4 seasons left in the tank, more if he can avoid injury. I think he's just what we need, a real leader on the pitch who will help to develop the likes of Galloway and give us a backbone, excellent signing if it comes off but frankly we've been linked to so many players I am beginning to wonder if there's any truth in the back pages.

We face two problems. Small + not good in the air. Cahill is a very rare case. Stones will be gone. Jags is 5'11 and Williams 6'0 and our fullbacks are the same or shorter. That's why I think it makes sense to sign Koulibaly.

A proper leader. I forget which Wales game it was during the Euros but whilst defending a corner he proper ripped into Bale for not standing in the right spot. A quick apologetic wave by Bale as he moved over.

If we want to progress we need to be ruthless, not sentimental. Jags is far too 'nice' to be a captain, I'd be more than happy with Williams (over anyone we currently have in our squad) to get the armband.

Koeman has seen what we have over the past month, he knows exactly what's needed.

Williams is a great signing for relatively little money. In fact, as a defender he's better than anyone we currently have.

Don't forget he also played one game when his shoulder was knackered and still lead from the front. We haven't got a leader at the back and he is that and worth the money.
