Stones will go.

We need a cb even if he doesn't.

He is willing to come. He's a good defender with plenty of experience in this league. He is a leader.

I'm failing to see an issue really.

Exactly.

People are really weird.

That and the FIFA generation thinking that any player that doesnt have a hollywood name or comes from timbuktu arent very good.

Ashley Williams is a really really boring name.

Exactly, we need another competent centre-back for this season as much as we need someone who could be far superior to Williams in 12 or 18 months time.

FFS I already said, our defenders were crap under martinez, thats a given. The same players however prior to that were a cut above Williams and you are lying if you say otherwise. Would you have wanted Williams here when Martinez first took over? I highly doubt it.

Our players coached defensive duties proprely are better than Williams, they actually really are, and they are young enough to improve beyond what Williams has ever achieved.

I don't think that is the case with this one - it's just that it's a lot of money for a time-limited solution.

I agree it makes sense as a signing, but it only makes sense at around £10m to £12m maximum. People say "it's not my money so I don't care", but miss the point, as overspending on a 32 year old takes money away from players who we could bring in to make a big long term impact.

Wrong on so many levels - Williams is a solid PL quality centre half with a world of experience and superb leadership qualities. What we lacked last year was leadership and organisation. Someone like Williams will give us that

Distin left and Stones never formed part of the Moyes defensive unit.

He's better than anything we currently have in that position, why can't you see that mate?

In terms of a defender who can organise a defence, exactly!

Jags - great last ditch defender. Not a natural organiser.

Stones - great player, very good defender as well but clear improvements to be made (plus he is likely not to be here anyway)

Funes - solid but also liable to mistakes (e.g. diving in stupidly, loses the player he is marking as well). Does provide a threat from set pieces.

Then we're into the youngsters.

So, to me, bringing Williams in, who can organise, has good positioning, is far from poor on the ball and is also a decent threat from set pieces, would be a great addition.

Look we could go round in circles for ever. I don't rate the lid that highly, not saying he's rubbish far from it but for us, now, not for me. I'll leave it at that.

I'm done. Have a Williams love in, just the type of signing we need to get the fanbase buzzing again.

You're talking in riddles man. You can't put back the clock 3 years, we're talking in the present, and Jags in now about to turn 34, Distin has retired and Stones is leaving. Funes Mori is error prone and nowhere near the level of Williams in the PL.

Williams makes the current unit stronger - today, in the present ffs.
