It was their wages. At the time considering our limited turnover they were ridiculous.

Then there was Stephen Hughes £3 million + Steve Simonsen £3.3 million
Nyarko £4.5 million + Alexandersson £2.2 million

That's about £40 million on gash in today's money plus about another £30 million on wages blown out of the sky.

What where their wages out of interest, was only 15 at the time but a ST holder and don't remember anyone being particularly bothered about their wages?

With regards to the others:-

Hughes was seen as a great prospect at Arsenal, but was denied playing time by Vieira and Petit.

Simonsen was highly regarded and wanted throughout the league, though the deal stunk because of Johnsons Tranmere connection.

Nyarko - nuff said.

Alexandersson. Decent player at sheff wed and I think even then at 2.2m was worth the gamble. We spent more on Linderoth.

Richard Gough was absolute quality for the season we had him, wasn't on a kings ransom... only other players I can think of he signed for decent cash were John Collins (good player, never worked out at Everton), Dacourt (good player), Matarazzi (class) and Bakayoko & Nyarko obviously flopped. The rest were on pittance mate.

plus richard gough was about 20 times the player williams will ever be

They were on a big wedge a number of them at the time.

Remember. When you're acquiring players you have to pay them.

That means you need to have the money in advance. Everton at the time on limited means had to sell players continually.

I'm saying pay over the odds here.

Pay over the odds on other players as a consequence.

Ultimately making us need to sell players.

Hence my objections to paying over the odds. @MoutsGoat

I honestly dont think we were paying big wages to any of them players mate. Gazza would have played for drinks after the match, Ginola was finished and Hughes still a prospect.

I think at the time we were likely to be paying more to Campbell, Collins, Barmby et al.

Think we had to sell players as we had been chronically mismanged at board level, as opposed to spunking wads of cash. If Moshiri is the man people like Esk are saying he is, 15m is a drop in the ocean.

He's Swanseas captain, is a quality centre back who has a load of experience in the Premier League. Has just come off the back of a quality Euros. Hopefully we will get anywhere between 2-4 decent seasons from him and then the likes of Galloway and Holgate step up.

Quality signing imo and can't come quick enough either.
