I know, of course, which was always the reason why Kenwright got away with "not spending" the Rooney money, all 25 mil of it. Thinking back on it the fact that we sold Englands player of a generation for 25 mil to a Lancashire rival still makes me want to ball my eyes out.

yeh it boggles the mind, but then again 25m in 2004 is what, 75m now?

either way mate, he's not wrong on this

Hi mate, how come you are ITK on theevertonforum but not on here?

I've been 'ITK' (kind of) on one possible move before, and that was for Tadic. It didn't work out in the end in our favour.

That was due to contacts at work having contacts. Similarly, this is the case with this deal (hopefully this one works out).

I just got called 'lame' on that Swansea forum for sharing what I knew but 'not having contacts at Everton myself' (which I put in my post on there).

I have no info from the Everton side and unless something changes dramatically I won't do. All my info on this (which isn't loads, admittedly) is coming from the colleague who is getting stuff from the Swansea side.

I just don't like conjecture being used as fact on here or other forums (not that it bothers me too much, but when I know with certainty it's not the case I will correct it) - which is why I posted on the Swansea forum in response to a few of them believing it was EFC effing about, though I suppose that would be expected.

We went back in with an improved offer on Wednesday (I know that for a fact, not sure how much) and that Williams (as of Tuesday before Swansea went back on the initial agreement in principle) was happy to join us. I don't know anything more on this or any other transfer though.

In my opinion, we're still in a strong position if (as it seems is the case) the player wants to join us. However, it's a seller's market and understandably Swansea won't want to sell a fans favourite, their skipper and one of their bets players a week before the season starts.

IMo though Williams is worth it. He's a class defender and is exactly what this side needs to improve - whether Stones leaves or not. Brings steel, organisation and leadership, plus the ability to actually head a cross away from danger. Can also play ina back four or back three - which I think Koeman will use at times next year.

So for me, I'd spend what it takes. Nothing - relatively speaking - too stupid, but if it's £15mil then so be it. If this deal does go through, which by all accounts it still very much could - then it reeks of being 'undisclosed' then. That way, Swansea can leak to their media sources it was £15mil, and we can leak to ours it was more around £12m.

Happy days haha!

Hope this works out though, would be a top signing!

What's the 10-4 Friend? No sharing with us??

It was interesting that on the Swansea forum they were saying that Williams was weak in the air and that they let in more goals from set pieces than any other team in the league last year.

The amount of exaggeration in this thread justifying spending over the odds on a player closer to retirement than we should be buying for this price

Is beyond belief.

Talk about desperation.

15 million nowadays is peanuts compared to before. It's disproportionately increased especially
Ibe is 20. Ferdinand immediately turned into a bag of shabite when he went to QPR (and his last year at United).

Rodwell was 20 million, age means nothing - if anything it's more of a gamble pay more for a young'un than it is someone who has been at a high level for a number of years.

He was £12m. Age means you pay for potential as well as getting more years out of them.
