When williams plays half a dozen games for us mate! everyone will go collectively "ahhhh! So THATs what a captain does?!!!"

We haven't had a player with a pair of cajones as captain since Dave Watson. Williams will take care of that absence.
Shame he can't run or head a ball though.

Well happy with that. A leader at the back which is exactly what we've been missing. I'll miss stones but he was mostly potential, good luck to him at city but defensively I don't think many can argue we are going to be more solid with Williams than stones this season.

And what about if/when he gets injured, david?

He's 32 and he'll be on a major wedge. I guarantee he won't be in any rush to get back into the side when a little niggle turns into a full-blown ACL (or what have ya). Injuries take time to heal the older one gets.

Then we're back to square 1.

It's too much money on too old a player.

I'm not surprised...gotta keep his hands busy, or they might go alight through all that friction...
Besic is only 22/23 and he is out for six months.
Williams has shown in the Euros that he can play through the pain barrier. something that a lot of professionals won't do.
Players like Williams get better as they get older, he is hardly ready to draw his pension just yet.
He has probably four years left at the very top, injuries permitting.

Relevance in this? Don't think Williams played through the same knee injury at the Euros...

So that can't happen to williams, then

Yeah - As captain in the only international tournament he's ever gonna play in.

But DO they get better as they age? And how old do you want him to get to - 68? Older players get slower, and they also take longer to recover after matches.

Well, a load want Jagielka out, and he's 34. Did they want him out 2 years ago? No.

Is williams gonna be the same player in 2 years time? Highly doubtful.

In four years from now? Even more doubtful.

Will he improve in any way? Again, very highly doubtful, given his pace'll go - as well as his recovery time.

I simply cannot understand why Arsenal were not all over a deal like this.

Doesn't Wenger not sign players over a certain age?

Anyway, Williams is a decent signing albeit one with a limited shelf-life. We'll be lucky to get 2 decent seasons out of him, which seems a little rum considering we've almost spent a third of the Stones cash on him.
