Ashley Williams

Really happy with this. Ashley Williams strikes me as being a proper Everton type player and his presence alone in the dressing room will be invaluable. I think we've played a blinder here if I'm being honest. We've sold 'potential' for great money and in my humble opinion Stones wont hit the heights in the Premier league and will eventually go abroad. The style in the premier league is increasingly becoming all about high tempo pressing football which doesn't suit a player like Stones. Sweeper type defenders will have a hard time in the Premier league over the coming 6 or 7 years. I think Guardiola is in for a rude awakening this coming season.
When Williams was linked to Liverpool I genuinely hoped the move wouldn't happen because he is a class act. He will be a great asset to us over the coming 3 or 4 years. Also, his influence on the younger defenders at the club will be fantastic. All in all a good day.

Guardiola might end up converting him to midfield I reckon.

We are breaking the mould! I think he is an astute signing and £12m is about right for him in the current climate.
Based on what? I can't think of a comparable signing anywhere.

Would you be happy if we sold Rom for £75M and then replaced him with Defoe for £16M. That's the striker equivalent of what we are doing here. Madness.

You musta been proper fumin when we signed a 32 year old Distin for £5 mil which would be about £15 mil in this inflated market.

Yes, I was. £5m was about right, in hindsight. Eyebrows were raised at the time, and not unjustly. Pompey simply had to sell at the time, and we ended up getting VFM for him in terms of years of service, but as far as quality goes, not really.

I have no qualms whatsoever in calling that feller the worst Everton captain I've seen in years.

Thank God Williams comes straight in and rips the armband off him. Hopefully the next step is he's punted to a no mark club like Sunderland.

I didnt comment on your opinión of him as a footballer or captain

Just on your impression of a spoilt teenage premier league fan with your "do one" comment

Anyway, carry on

I will agree he was never a great footballer...but he was an excellent defender, and that is what center halves must be able to do first and foremost.

Williams is a better defender than Stones full stop.

The point is that Moyes made Jagielka captain with a few games to go in the season when he'd already announced he'd leave the club. He had no right to saddle the incoming manager with him. It was not impossible for Martinez to strip him of that armband on arriving, but diplomatically it'd have been unwise. That's how we got lumbered with a captain that should never have been captain.
Actually a very good point. Never thought about it like that before
