While I think anybody who enjoys watching football would like to have a Stones-type player in the side, what Everton need right now is a solid base to build from.
Once that is in place, and running throughout the squad, then we will be able to switch things up a bit.

Why cant we have both now?
We have no blend at CB atm, that's why the ball is coming back to us so quickly. We need a solid Williams type who blocks and organises and we need a CB who can compliment that by playing it out from the back.
Jagielka needs punting and we need a player like Van Dilk or similar alongside Williams.
Would love VVD alongside Williams.

Because for the time being we don't have that player, and Jagielka is a better out and out defender than Mori.
Holgate may well become that but against Norwich he was often exposed when played at centre-half.
I'd love us to go and get a ball-playing centre-half who also has that physical presence (VVD is a great example), but for the time being, Jagielka/Williams is rightly the correct partnership.
