Williams is a defend first kind of player, as reflected by the lack of goals we concede.

Nobody ever conceded a goal when the ball is 60 foot in the air.

Williams is old school. Give me a hoofer any day as long as he can defend...and he can. He is also a big voice in our defence to help talk any youngsters through a game and to bollock anyone. He is uncomplicated and experienced and is what we need. For me despite his age is a bargain and will serve us well for a couple of seasons and more importantly pass on his experience to others.

Yes, perhaps he's an embodiment of the pendulum swinging too far in the other direction, but with RFM playing alongside him, I'd rather have no nonsense hoofball from Williams. Is he going to take us to the CL? No, but we needed him to get us closer so we can build on that.

If your concerns about a center back are their ability to hit a 60 yarder consistently on the dot or playing sexy football out of the back, I think your priorities are a little off. He and Mori can be upgraded because of our good fortunes with a new owner, but they are more than serviceable for this season. Williams was short term until we could find a replacement. Mori is depth.

He was clearly a means to an end we all bemoaned the targeting of players whom were proved to be unobtainable so we did a deal for the here & now.

Hopefully first game of next season he isn't starting as we have signed at least one if not 2 top centre halfs & holgate has put a stone of power on.

Agree about Holgate. It's hard to see him as one of 2 CBs with his build. He could do with bulking up a bit.
