Well I'm gonna mentally vault myself

I stood up for AW when we signed him. Thought he was just a fantastic defender (especially after his European Championships performances - but also in seasons before that too). Was actually made up we got him!

But Jesus, bar the odd game, he has looked a shadow of his former self this season and would like to apologise to anyone I berated about slagging off his signing. Massively disappointing.

Good night and thank your lucky stars I'm not one of our scouts

Doesn't look happy at all, maybe he has never really settled

To be fair to him, defensively he's been decent.

But he's not a footballing defender so much as a defensive footballer.

And his distribution from the back is woeful.

Depending upon who we sign this summer to take and play the leading centre back roles, he'll likely be the third in a back three or on the bench to play back up in a back four.

He's not good enough full stop. Panic buy get rid.

will leave at a big £££ loss at the end of next season I think! Still, we got £47.5m for Stones and needed someone to do a job, and we've finished 7th.

He's struggled in the back end of the season, but we shouldn't forget he was very handy for two thirds of the season at least.

Ideally he won't have to play anywhere near as many games next season as we'll have younger, fresher and better legs in there, but he'll still have a part to play.

Hilariously bad today, of course.

I'm not even sure about that, personally. Shambles today, poor at Swansea, awful vs Chelsea, a complete joke against Liverpool and that's just in the last couple of months.

Aside from being old and slow he dives in too much, reacts at a snail's pace and falls for the simplest of deceiving runs.

He can battle and head the ball, and he's definitely a vocal enough character. He's just not good enough for where we want to be and won't get any better.

He plugged a gap that we had at CB due to poor planning. He's a stop-gap, nothing more and certainly nwhere near the standard required if we want to challenge. Back up at best next season
