The haters need to go and sit in a dark corner, RK has obviously seen our defence from last season and then pre season it still looks a bit shaky at times, there is a lack of a leader and organiser, and yes I think Jags is to blame, great player but not a leader. We have shipped a few dodgy goals pre season so he's sorting it, we will become a much tighter outfit.

Our defence is rubbish. He is a good defender. What's not to like?

I think it's a bit like going out and hiring an experienced locum at an inflated hourly rate. He might not even be here for very long, but we need experience and proficiency RIGHT NOW and we can't afford to waste time going through the laborious and tediously prolonged traditional recruitment methods only to take on some young and inexperienced person that cant hack the pace anyway.

He supposedly isn't very good in the air or at set pieces though, but he is said to be brilliant at organisation which is exactly what we need. We should make him captain!.

Agree - I love Jags - to me he's just behind Baines as my fave everton player ...... but I hope Koeman appoints a new skipper - like Williams - someone with a bit more fire and a bit more vocal.

say what you want about his age, getting PL quality CBs is not easy these days and he is one of the best there is. Great signing.

I think a lot of people are still in the mindset of the times when we needed to approach each transfer as a profit making venture, this isn't the case anymore.

Yes it is mate.

The financial regs mean it's a necessity.

On the contrary.

When haters see an over priced - old player who may go rapidly down hill ability wise over the next 18 months

- coming in for far too much money they need to speak out. For the good of the club.

What a load of absolute rubbish. How can you be so negative? And since when is 31 old? John Terry was at his peak at 31 and won the league with Chelsea? Ryan Giggs? Lampard? Scholes?

You can't predict the future mate contrary to what you may think I personally believe he will improve in a better team under a better manager.

Get behind him.

Is this all still based on the wales online article? seems very similar to the Austrian skysports report on Arnoutivic? Is there anything more concrete?

I'm extremely concerned we are paying over the odds for a 32 year old.

Simply making that known.

Jags hasn't been playing in pre-season mate so you can't really blame him.

The problem is the entire defensive unit is still suffering a bit of a hangover leftover by RM - akin to how Moyes' defensive structure stayed in place for much of 13/14. Bringing in a solid defender who like you said is an organiser and a natural leader at the back can only help.

Add to the fact that we're most likely gonna be bringing in a defender who isn't experienced in the CL when Stones leaves, it makes total sense to go and get Williams.

I'm not sure what Koeman is planning in terms of partnerships, but I have a real feeling that a pairing of Jags and Williams could be absolutely boss.
Takes me back to thinking of the old Stubbs and Weir partnership. Not quick or particularly cultured - but both had incredible reading of the game and just knew exactly where to be.

In fact, Williams and Jags are both younger, fitter and quicker than Stubbs and Weir - so potentially even better. I just think they have a huge amount of experience between them both domestically and internationally, as well as plenty of pride, desire and heart. Think the pair of them could give us a really solid platform to build on.

Funes Mori still gives me the jitters to be honest - but I dare say he'd also improve alongside Williams. But Jags/Williams I'm weirdly excited about.
