2024/25 Ashley Young

He wouldn’t be playing for us if he was a world class international player. We’ve paid a lot of money for a lot worse. Most of his mistakes and bad games have come from rashness rather than age. Feels like having Delph, but Young has a better attitude and is almost always fit. A big plus when you have one fit LB, a very inexperienced RB and 2 others permacrocked. Not Youngs fault we don’t/can’t buy better full-backs.

Ideally we wouldn’t need to play him, obviously. Often not great, but rarely quite as bad as the fume would suggest. We’ve had plenty of players you could see either shell shocked by our expectations or literally not trying/caring.

I thought he was ok but there were still far too many times where Harrison was basically playing right back covering him. He gets into some very strange positions where he still thinks he's a winger and Harrison is further back.

It happens far too much for my liking.

He was ok today, but we still look well off it to me when it comes to shape and having a plan of how we want to play.

Think it's probably because he trusts Harrison to cover when he gets forward, He wasn't really doing it first.half when Lindstrom was on

No mate it's a tactical thing. This happened more and more as the game went on, Harrison basically ends up playing right back. Ndiaye ends up almost sitting on the left back.

We crawl into a horrible defensive shell and the out ball option becomes less and less as the game wars on.

We have seen the Young in the last 2-3 games that I wished to see earlier and still was a starter in the first season Emery took over.

Knowing he lost his explosiveness to a certain point, but still has the experience to compensate with clever forward passes and defending.
