2024/25 Ashley Young

After that first half I was worried Young would be scapegoated by many for what was, until then, a horrendous team performance. But the way I saw it was that every time he got the ball he had no willing runners around him and nobody showing for the ball. Palace switched play often, leaving them with space on their left. On the majority of occasions Young nullified Eze, but the whole of our midfield was left struggling to get back over and only Lindstrom was the viable ball and we all know how that went. As soon as Harrison came on and started to close the gaps between right back and winger, Young was given more opportunity to shift the ball as proven with his assist early on. Harrison, though not the greatest on the pitch made a difference purely by his willingness to close that gap. I thought Young did well amd in making Eze fairly toothless used a lot of experience and is something that many 'better' right backs will fail to do this season.

No mate it's a tactical thing. This happened more and more as the game went on, Harrison basically ends up playing right back. Ndiaye ends up almost sitting on the left back.

We crawl into a horrible defensive shell and the out ball option becomes less and less as the game wars on.
Probably both, he's not brain dead enough to overlap Lindstrom because he knows Lindstrom won't cover

Didn't put a foot wrong yesterday. Showed composure sadly lacking in many of his team mates, particularly the frightened rabbit playing in front of him in the first half.
Another player who doesn't get credit when it's due...played well last week as well.

We all know his limitations which makes him a easy target for negativity but which also why when he's had a decent game it should be noted.

Did either of you actually watch the game??

I’m no fan of him at all and thankfully it looks like Patterson is back soon but he was brilliant yesterday it has to be said. Can’t remember him getting beaten, won a lot of headers funnily enough, cleared one off the line. Clever interception for the first goal. What is he meant to do?

If Dixon has that game everyone is going mental about it.
No he wasn't brilliant lets get some reality in the situation. He had an acceptable performance. He is still a liability and should not be started and if Dixon had put in that performance i would say he didn't let us down which he didn't and given youngs history is an improvement. Plus if you watched the game yesterday the performance was not very good at all the first half was probably the worst half of football this season from us with the second half lifted by an absolute worldie from McNeil and a great finish for the second and remember this palace team hadn't won a game all season (still haven't thank god) and yesterday was the first game in which they have taken the lead. So as i said acceptable performances all round but only just certainly not brilliant.

Played well yesterday. The downside is that'll convince Dyche he's up to this standard which he's proved time and time again he isn't.
We all know he's not answer which is all the more reason to doff our cap when he puts in a performance.

Thing with him he seems not to pick up that many injuries for this age.

The fact he's playing RB for us is more down to the incompetence of the club.

Thought young, branthwaite and Mangala on the whole were excellent (bar a couple of shaky moments from Jarrad first half and Mangala tiring). Team wasn’t great but a few played well to be fair.
