2024/25 Ashley Young

Like everyone else I think it’s an indictment on the club that we’re playing a near 40 year old and any decently run club he’d be nowhere near the side but he’s either been our MOM or in contention last 4 or 5 games .

Who’s our best performing full back , defender or even player ? It feels churlish not to give credit where it’s due .

Not when our right winger is staying back to help him & wonder why no crosses come in for ant CF?

That's nothing to do with Young though, they'd be doing that regardless under Dyche.
He is aged 30 years old - both our fullbacks are crap - that's how United scored 4 goals Both wings exposed our defence ..... if he is that good why were EFC the only team after him ? a backwards cheap signing IMO ...

The guy is supposed to be cover for the first choice LB and RB. It's not his fault he's thrust into this role, the guy should be playing once a month.

He has been better at RB. He was awful last season with the same support you mention, this season he has been better. It's not a crime to highlight that.

It was a cheap signing because we are broke. Spending actual money on a backup fullback would be lunacy.

Playing a 39-year-old is lunacy, IMO ....

I can’t believe I’m fighting Ashley youngs corner , it feels like the twilight zone . As I’ve said it’s a sad indictment of our football club that’s he’s one of the first names on the team sheet but he’s done ‘well’ lately , certainly compared to his teammates and especially compared to his opposite fullback.

Plus he’s great for a yellow card bet

Credit for what we conceded 4 goals - plus Patterson put a great cross in where DCL diving header unlucky not to score ....

id start Patterson , whether dyche does seems less likely .

I’ll say again I’m not an Ashley young fan but I do think he’s played well in a very very poor Everton side . For example I think he’s played better than the Current captain And the left back not too mention many of the other outfield players .

It’s clear you disagree agree Joe , that’s fine football is all about opinions . I’ve no desire to massive fight his corner , I’m not that enamoured with him I just think he’s done pretty well especially when compared to the majority of his teammates performances .

My older brother before the United game stated they were an average side - but we would get well beaten as our two full backs would get skinned & he was spot on ..... slow - don't overlap & can't mark a winger - he was spot on ....

Really? Go back and look at the Man U game. Our Right Winger, of sorts, is Lindstrom who is doing absolutely nothing to help out his fullback. His defensive contributions of note all came in the first 10 minutes. He spent most of the game in the Utd half in attacking positions but did nothing with the ball.

The inability of our attacking players to play decent forward passes in the attacking third is nothing to do with Ashley Young.

The first goal was a corner played to a player in acres of space on the edge of the box whose shot was deflected in by Branthwaite.

The second goal was a Branthwaite making an absolute mess of controlling a simple ball under a little pressure.

The third goal was partly a full back, Mykolenko, getting sucked into the centre of the field as well as Branthwaite. Further compounded by Tarkowski absolutely giving up on his runner.

The fourth goal is a full back, Mykolenko, winning possession and then a centre half, Tarkowski, getting his footing into a complete mess while backing away and then throwing in a pathetic attempt at challenging for the now loose ball.

I’m happy to give players stick when they deserve it , I’ve certainly given it to young , but I don’t understand why he can’t be given a modicum of credit for his performances in recent games . I’m not suggesting a statue or anything just he’s done ok .

The left back has been dire most of his time at the club especially lately and tarkowski seems to have fallen off a cliff , and I say that as someone who thinks he’s been really solid for us .
