2024/25 Ashley Young

Which is why he is a sub who comes on late, come on joe you are nearly there
He has to come on ? Why slow pedantic aged nearly 40 yrs old - our youth players - no wonder they leave - even Keane was stripped ready to play up front at one stage ? The term square pegs in round holes just because of your name springs to mind .....

I don't think that is a term.

He doesn't have to come on, the manager selected him to alter our shape and get the big lad forward against a full back, you know, the reason we scored.

Patts hasn't kicked a ball and throwing a kid on in the last 15 can be a risk, it was the right move and you are wrong.

His pace has obviously gone, but he uses his experience to take up really good positions on the pitch, and particularly so in the final third. We saw this for the Palace winner, the United 'pen', and even once or twice last night.
And the equaliser in the derby. Without him taking up the position he did and having the nous to know that the ball needed hoisting forwards we lose that match.

Not sure about that. He isn’t exactly covering RB in the pic below standing on the left side of the box.

You would probably expect Ashley Young to be standing more around where the arrow points below. Either way, I thought he did well again yesterday.

….not sure why you think Young is ‘slow’, seems in good shape and gets about the pitch fine. Over the course of this season he’s actually played very well, that’s how he should be judged (not with any bias because of his age).

There’s a bottom line here, he plays ahead of others because he’s deemed better than others, he did fine when he came on, taking up some terrific attacking positions just as he did at Palace.

He's not though backpeddling as soon as he came non & getting beat ...no pace

What incredible nous to know that we needed to get the ball forward in the 98th minute when losing. It’s imperative we keep him so he can pass this knowledge on to our other players.
I actually think that's possibly one of his few flaws. Two years here and he hasn't been able to teach any of our young RB's to be competent in the position.

Clearly the player that’s stepped in to play right back, who isn’t even a right back, has had no trouble stepping into the position and being an overnight improvement on every single level.

He's a centre half Mick, which kinda confirms my point. I said right backs.
