Most of our play goes down the wings anyway, predictably so...might as well have 2 strikers on if Gylfi isn't hitting shots

Yes, that's fine. But we had basically a bank of 4 up top, then two FBs and our midfielders 30 yards back.

So many times our FBs had it and needed a passinhg option central, and we had nothing.

I'm not disagreeing with the 4-4-2/4-2-4, but you have to have the personnel in the midfield to drive forward. Davies should have been on because, for all his faults, he does that.

Always seems to be the poor teams we struggle against. Our players attitudes stink and has done for years. Also we looked way off the pace we were second to every ball.

That centre midfield was absolute poison tonight, no pace, drive or invention, games are won in midfield, we didn't h ave one tonight. Still hit the inside of the post and the two misses by Lewin and Walcott were just criminal. Villa were pathetic, their diving, snide tactics were a disgrace, gleefully helped by an inept ref and ourselves who played right into their hands.

Pickord - 6 - Couldn't do much for either goal.
Coleman - 6 - Got forward well and should have had an assist.
Keane - 6 - A bit meh.
Mina - 6 - Bad errors but made up for them.
Digne - 6 - Created things but can't do it all on his own.
Gomes - 3 - His worst game in an Everton shirt. Proper poor.
Schneiderlin - 2 - Gets a 2 because he played that one good pass to Coleman for DCL's sitter.
Rich - 5 - He's been playing too wide and offers nothing there. Start him up front if Kean isn't ready.
Gylfi - 4 - Nothing performance. But again, he gets si frustrated by players not having the impetus to pass it to him.
Bernard - 5 - Was poor.
DCL - 3 - Offered nothing.

Kean - 6
Iwobi - 6
Walcott - 3

Silva - 4 - He got it all wrong with the subs. Worry when we go behind we simply don't know how to change it.
thought Bernard was decent tbh, not sure why Silva took him off though.

Same same same etc

Can argue all we want but the same performances same mistakes same clueless people at the club. Nothing changes. Waste of a night that

This is when you realise how how important Guaye was to the team.

It's just energy in the midfield.

I don't think he helps us pick a lock, but he did help our midfielders push further up the pitch.

Which is the point that a lot of us made all along when people were calling him crap.

I'm not sure we win that with him like, but it just shows how weak we are when our primary options aren't available.

Villa > Burnley

But we could’ve played for 2 weeks and scored.

To be fair mate I think all 3 games have been very similar to tonight. Watford could easily have gone the other way, and palace was just a non-event for both teams.

It can and will get better but clear as mud that we cannot finish above 7th with the frailties we have going forwards.
On paper we have a good group of attacking players, but they aren’t giving nowhere near enough going forward, there’s a combination there but Silva needs to find it. But after tonight I think Iwobi could be an important part of it, I thought he looked good when he came on.

It's matchweek 3. Not armageddon.
No, I realise it's not armageddon, but it's always the same pattern. We talk about ambition, but again we slip up at the first hurdle. Had the chance to go top. If we're serious about challenging for the top places, we should be ready for games like this. It's hardly a one off.

Probably look back tomorrow and put it all in perspective. Most probably already start doing that, but just so annoyed, pissed off and dissapointed.

Doesn't help that we can't get the ball into them.
