Atmosphere around the Club

I think the Lukaku statement by Koeman is rather clever.
We all know that Lukaku will go eventually.
So Koeman states as much.
What I read into his statement was: (to Lukaku, indirectly) You can go on to higher things. But to do so, you've got to deliver consistently here, otherwise the big boys will not come in for you, and you'll be stuck here.

Exactly the 'gee-up' he needs to be on top of his game consistently, and not drop down into idleness on the pitch again.

I hope I'm right, and we see Lukaku pulling his guts out every game to lift the club.

I think Koeman is a clever Manager - he appears to have already turned Ross's attitude and performance around.

Yes, that's EXACTLY what he feels too.

Would it be totally necessary to deliver that message publicly?

We are in a transitory phase, going from stagnation to growth. As a result the atmosphere is naturally unsettled as those responsible for the stagnation become aware of the unsettling forces demanding improvement.

Whilst perhaps being a little brutal there was nothing untrue in what Koeman said.

I read it as a message with three parts (i) this is what I (Koeman) think of Lukaku and his potential (ii) Lukaku has to do more to achieve his potential, and (iii) the club through the board has to step up to keep Lukaku in the hope he can achieve his ambitions here not somewhere else.

I dont see how belittling the club in the media can be seen as a benefit.

Maybe thats just me.

He's literally stated that Lukaku should not spend his career at the club as he will in effect have wasted his career if he doesnt join 'a big club'.

There is no way to sugar coat these words. Moyes said very similar when bidding for Baines and Fellaini and we (rightly) slated him.

Id sack him (i hate him anyway) but at the very least id be having serious words with him and asking if he wants to leave as he clearly isnt invested in the club other than for the money.

Rubbish football, bad attitudes and now the manager saying our best player should leave.

Im furious.

I said we should've got Unsworth in in the summer but there wasn't much support at all. Imagine him saying something like that. Not in a million years.

Unsworth wouldn't get this team into the top 7. Koeman will be lucky to unless he strengthens in January. As much as I get where you are coming from regarding loyalty and respect there has to be an element of realism too. If Unsworth was so perfect and ready to manage Everton and get them European football then why haven't other Premier League clubs and lower league clubs been lining up and knocking the door for him?

I think you have it spot on! Koeman speaks his mind and as Moshiri said is not sentimental! Is there one single Evertonian who doesn't expect Lukakau to leave us? Really? Is there any single Evertonian who thinks we are a 'big' club in the context Koeman is using the word? He was talking about Barcelona lads, come on? We are irrelevant in world football compared to them! I didn't like what Koeman said, but do you know what? I still think he is being honest, and that is a commodity we haven't seen at our club for decades!

koeman sees the barca job as the holy grail. he has never stayed for long like mourinho. might be physchology on his part about lukaku but his role is surely to keep his best players for as long as possible. The longer moshri keeps his transfer wallet zipped the likeliehood is that the likes of coleman, lukaku etc etc will leave.

I would rather have a manager who tells the truth than one who comes out with rubbish about how we are a massive club. If Moshiri gets us a new stadium and spends 100 million on players, then we can talk about great players not leaving. Until then we are a stepping stone. Every team in England except the 2 Manchester clubs and maybe Chelsea is the same.
