Badelj is a very different player to both of them though, he's most similar to Barry - sitting deep and playing simple passes. McCarthy in particular would have to be replaced with a player who has a similar work rate/playing style (high pressure).

No way is Witsel McCarthys replacement. Witsel would be box to box whereas McCarthy is a DM whose been played out of position.
