Kristof Terreur has tweeted again this morning confirming that we did speak with both Zenit and Witsel's father (because those crazy Belgium's love to get their old fella's involved).
apologies i can't post a pic of his tweet but he was responding to a question about our interest and he says "he'll probably be linked to another team next week. #EFC talked to his dad & Zenit. Unclear what happened next"
Kristof appears very reliable when it comes to Belgium players and would certainly say if the deal was dead. Equally i imagine he'd say if it was as close as we thought a week ago.

Shock horror as he keeps his options open we'd all do the same but let's bin him because he didn't sign when Robson Kanu's shot hit the back of the net.
Real life.
I just hope we left the offer on the table, let him go fish around for better if he wants, in the meantime we try to get some other deals over the line

Absolutely I'm sure us sniffing around Carvalho too as I'm not sure we'd want both.

They're totally, totally different players though. Carvalho will sit in front of the back four, not often making much effort to get forward - a bit like Barry.
Witsel is far more box-to-box.
One shouldn't preclude the other IMO
