Transfer Rumour Axel Witsel

To be perfectly honest if I was Stones or Lukaku and the club sold me the vision of £100 million investment in players plus a new riverside stadium and then buy Stekelenburg, Gueye and Williams for £20 million I would be questioning my future prospects.
I have said this before, if a club wants to attract top talent or have young players invest their time then they have to provide that young talent with the opportunities to fulfil their potential. Not challenge for 11th place.
I am sure I am wrong but I am fed up that all the hope of a few weeks ago has come down to Williams and Gueye. Have Everton done it again, sold the dream only to disappoint.

I'm with you mate. Gueye, Williams, and Janu, just arn't exciting transfers at all.

i feel chelsea do know that, thats why they havent matched our asking price, just a good old case of supply and demand.. hes not worth 60m in my opinion... but when a club has no other striker, the lads early 20's and we dont need the $$$ (apparently) then we will slap a stupid price tag on him?

You do know the southern-based media are literally making this up mate?

Chelsea haven't bid yet, so quite how they can issue an 'ultimatum' is beyond me. Same with City and Stones.

It's a seller's market and we don't need to sell either player. We probably will sell one - on our terms and if we have a replacement line up - but I'm pretty certain it won't be Lukaku.

We have been trying though pal?

Witsel, Mata, Carvalho. Big names and the reason they're taking longer is because we've been tosh for a few years.

In the meantime, we needed a keeper and we've got a semi-decent one in. We still need another like but Stek will prove to be a decent aquisition IMO.

We needed a commanding centre half and Williams will present that. Should Stones go, we'll likely still go out and get another, younger one as well.

Gueye I'm not 100% on but he seems the type of player Walsh likes and Koeman obviously does as he tried to sign him last year.

And no, in response to your final point.

Wait until the end of the window. But it seems that this week we're going to see some positive movement on at least two signings and potentially Witsel as well.

No but they're realistic and are additions to areas that we desperately need to improve in, bar Januzaj who no I'm not at all convinced will offer us much.

However, we're also still after our priority targets and they will come in. Don't for a second think this will be our only business.

But just because a signing is 'exciting', doesn't mean it's a good one either.

Williams is a proven quality centre-half who is a leader and an organiser, and is actually in the prime of his career. Much like the Distin signing it would be a smart buy as we're crying out for that type of player to come in and help stem our leaky defence.

Koulibaly may well come in as a replacement for Stones, but he's had one very good season at Napoli and hasn't any experience of English football. In such an important position it's a big risk to take to bring just a player like that in with very little experience beside him, so whether Stones stays or goes having Williams will be top.

That's obviously photoshopped, I remember the club sent him to Paris just after he came here to try and cheer him up...

fair enough mate, being australian your right, i dont have a grasp on what media outlets are reputable, i take most with a pinch of salt, and just assume that when more then 3-4 outlets are saying the same thing theres some truth to it, but point taken...
all this talk of the FFP rules, makes me think that we MUST sell one of them to be able to spend this 100m that ron supposedly has at his fingertips?

The London monopoly in the UK is even stretching to football mate and just like last year with Stones, they presume that Everton are actually the ones looking to sell. It isn't the case, and Chelsea are in no position of power in this instance. That will only change if they bid close to our valuation and Rom pushes for a move. Considering how high our valuation is, that will only happen if Costa is sold IMO.

In regards to FFP, it's not really like that. Other posters can explain it better but simply put we can spend the £100mil (if indeed that is our budget) on transfers or whatever, but the wage bill would therefore increase (3 x £30m players all on 100k+ p/week). That would likely lead to a wage bill increase that would breach FFP regulations, unless we raise our revenue to compensate. The best and most sustainable way is through commercial deals, a new ground etc, but they take a while to establish. In the short-term, the best way to raise the revenue is by selling assets (in this case most likely Stones) for a huge profit.

@blakefaa

roydo posted this in one of the FFP threads the other day, which is a succinct/basic explanation.

A new rule came in alongside the new TV deal, to try to keep a lid on wages. It means that each club can only increase their current wage bill by X%. But, if they can increase their profit, that X% becomes a higher Y%.

So, we sell Stones, our wage bill can increase by an amount big enough to pay the salaries new players will/can demand.

Then Esk wrote this article a while back as well which goes into detail.

If I have got it right and blakefaa is an indigenous Australian, then that comment is fairly insensitive....Im sure you were making the usually aussie drunken stereotype (which imo is fine and banter), but it it has different connotations here.

(of course I may have blakefaa's ethnicity all wrong, it is a very confusing thread!)

just because there not massive names on 150 a week doesnt mean there not good signings at the time kante, vardy, mahrez, morgan probably all uninspiring signings, i do agree to attractr# big players we needs one massive sign of intent, lets not just have negative thoughts about players because they havent got massive names
