Bad actors

Samuel L Jackson. Controversial, I know.

Great in Pulp Fiction, actual Oscar-worthy. But then played the same role in all other films. Tho' as someone said here a one-trick pony is not the same as an outright bad actor.

Saying that, he showed some acting chops in one of the Die Hard films...wasn't the typical character we know at all, I think it might've been pre-Tarantino era.

And every time a thread like this comes along, people quite rightly mention the hilariously bad Nicholas Cage and there are always those weird, deluded people that jump up to defend him. "No, he's not bad, just miscast! He was dead good in Con Air!" No. He's horrible and I can prove it in tests.

A classic example of how being from a famous Hollywood family can get you places, despite having ZERO talent.

I'll have a read of the thread later but I'll throw my opinion first.

Tom Cruise - stunted dwarf takes me out of every film with his being Tom Cruise and not a character. With the exception of tropic thunder
Christian Slater - hated him when he was big and part of the reason I never kept watching Mr Robot.
Ryan Reynolds - no matter what he's playing he exudes "douchebag"
Tarantino - acts like someone that won a competition to be an extra and ended up with a speaking part.

Bit contriversial here, matt le blanc and Matthew perry.

Not terrible as in can't act, but are basically those characters. Joey and Chandler. Everything i have seen them both in, both seem to be extensions of that one character. Matt Le Blanc strikes me in real life as a Joey who isn't stupid basically, but mannerisms in them both are just those sitcom characters.

I would go far to say a bad actor is essentially an acotr that doesnt make you believe in their character. So for me, if an actor captures the character then they can't be terrible.

another i haven't rated seeing them is woody harrelson. Not a strong actor at all

His performances in Cheers give him lifetime exemption from any 'bad actors' list.

He let Chloe Moretz steal the limelight as Hit Girl, which probably moved her acting career forward by years.

How many other established actors would do that ?.

Cage is untouchable imo.

Disagree with you slightly there, she was also excellent in 'Let Me In' the same year as 'Kick Ass'.
