Bad actors

Oh and Melissa McCarthy.

The absolute fat mess.

I thought so at first, but actually thought she was really good in a couple things I saw. Actually funny instead of just being 'fat funny'.

Oh definitely Wahlberg. His performance in The Departed is cringeworthy.

Nicholson is also beyond awful in that. People need to just man up and watch Infernal Affairs, the original films.

Jesse Eisenberg

Eisenberg is great. Zombieland, Social Network, American Ultra.

Dwayne Johnson
Jason Statham

Both play the same roles in the same films...... boring.

That's bad casting or role choice tho, not bad acting.

Bit contriversial here, matt le blanc and Matthew perry.

Not terrible as in can't act, but are basically those characters. Joey and Chandler. Everything i have seen them both in, both seem to be extensions of that one character. Matt Le Blanc strikes me in real life as a Joey who isn't stupid basically, but mannerisms in them both are just those sitcom characters.

I would go far to say a bad actor is essentially an acotr that doesnt make you believe in their character. So for me, if an actor captures the character then they can't be terrible.

another i haven't rated seeing them is woody harrelson. Not a strong actor at all

Personally I think most actors actually fall into the catagory of being typecast/always acting to type, it just happens to stand out more with certain actors than others. Eg Leblanc is clearly not completely brain dead, but even though he might be similar to Joey, he came across very well as a complete numbskull in that role.

Harrelson is awsome. He's been great in plenty of roles.

Leo DiCaprio who deffo knows a dirty secret or two

Has also had plenty of quality roles over the years, although mixed in with some dross as well.

I think too often people mistake only getting/choosing one type of role with being a bad actor. Hadyn Christiansen in Star Wars, or Awake, clearly just bad. Many of those above are very good at what they do, just don't happen to do/try anything else. The two things are quite different.

Yep, as mentioned above, Daniel Radcliffe is an example of a weak actor, he's totally unconvincing in every role he plays.

That's the thing: he's had plenty of great roles, he just doesn't do them justice. Has no depth or personality, and is not credible as anything other than an actor trying too hard. He lacks the ability to make the audience suspend their disbelief.

Put him against a good actor and see the difference:

vs Daniel Day Lewis in Gangsters of NY
vs Tom Hardy in Revenant
vs Ben Kingsley/Sydow in Shutter Island

or an indirect comparison: his role as someone losing their mind in Shutter Island vs someone like Michael Sheen who played a similar role in Take Shelter. Or someone out in his own in the wild in Revenant compared to Tom Hanks in similar for Castaway.

Such a difference in pure acting chops.
