Baines: We have no chemistry

Seems like this is it for Martinez.

A loss in the semi or a loss in the final and he's out the door within three days. Once you've lost the players, doesn't matter who you are, you're gone.

My thoughts exactly. This interview is more damning than anything I've seen this season. Can you see us winning the cup from here ? I can't. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that Martinez should go and we make a fresh start.

I'm a firm fence sitter, got splinters from sitting on it so long. Think you are right though. A defeat in the cup (seems somewhat likely) and I'd be surprised to see Martinez stay come the end of the season. Not going to say whether it's right or wrong, just likely.

Every single side I played for had cliques. But that is, or should be, forgotten on the pitch. Like the older lads would hang out, the younger lads would, and we would be made up when a youngster did well, and they would rip us for being old when we did.

Isnt a problem, unless the fella in charge unites them against him. Which seems to maybe be happening.

....I'm not sure cliques is the right word, perhaps it is but it suggests secrecy and Chinese whispers. I agree, though, that a football club is like most workplaces in that you friend up with certain people. It's natural, even in schools. The thing is that you are a cohesive unit all pulling the same way. At Everton I don't particularly get the impression of a dressing room rift, more a loss of faith with what they are being asked to do.

Whats the thing behind that?

Was told he basically gripped the young players and told them Martinez didn't have a clue and to ignore him
I remember one game before the match, had every single player (maybe the first teamers) sitting down while he was ranting about something pretty animatedly.

Baines: We have no chemistry, by GrandOldTeam

Leighton Baines has admitted “There’s no chemistry between the players”.

“You are only really secure as individuals when you are winning games but even then we will make changes from time to time with what is required tactically,” Baines told the ECHO.

“I don’t think there is anyone expecting to have their name pencilled in for that game (FA Cup semi-final).”

“But the motivation should be getting your name there,” he added.

“I just don’t feel as though the chemistry is quite there with the team on the pitch at the moment, and it hasn’t been for a while.

“We are maybe leaning too heavily on individuals to come up with something.

“We’re in games, we were in the game on Sunday and had a couple of chances, but we’re not performing as a team to the level we know we can or we should be.

“Results have an impact on that because chemistry and confidence go hand in hand.

“If you start winning games

“Look at the teams who are having success this year and you’d say they have chemistry.

“It’s another game where we have come away without a win and we’re not where we should be,” Baines said.

“We haven’t won enough games to make excuses.

“You get judged at the end of the season, and we’re getting towards the end of the season, and we’re not near a position we should be in given what we’ve got.

“We’re all accountable. We try and put it right but we’ve not been able to. That’s the third loss on the bounce in the league which is disappointing to us all.

“We want to win everytime we go out to play and we’d like to go into that cup game with a few wins behind us.

“That’s our season in some respects now, it certainly is from the fans’ point of view and we’ve let them down a lot, it’s our only way of making it up to them.

“To go on and have success in the Cup now. You had the travelling fans there again on Sunday and they are amazing, they follow us wherever we go and generally they have seen us win a few games this season but unfortunately we weren’t able to give them the result or performance we wanted to.”

“If I had to say one thing, I just don’t know if it’s there with us at the moment, for whatever reason.”

Not exactly sticking up for the manager is he.

Beginning of the end for Roberto for me.

The problem we have is most other clubs would hook the manager whereas I honestly wouldn't be suprised to see Mirallas, Rom, Baines etc. To be long gone before the board have the guts/sense to realise the manager simply isn't good enough.
