13 songs. That’s a much smaller number than it seems. I had previously suggested 10 songs from a single artist but had never before attempted a list of my 13 favorite songs (and still haven’t apparently). Here goes.
1. Cult of Personality by Living Color; probably my first favorite band and favorite song, still enjoy this jam
2. Creep by Radiohead; needs little introduction but it was enlightening in my formative years and still my favorite band
3.a Big Time by Peter Gabriel; I was really too young for new wave (and this is pop) but I really liked this as an older kid/teen and still do
3.b This Charming Man by The Smiths
3.c Let’s Dance by David Bowie
4. Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads
5. Come as You Are by Nirvana; I was a teen in the 90’s, is there an explanation needed?
6. Say it Ain’t So by Weezer
7. Unsung by Helmet; I was never really into metal, and never really into Helmet, but something about this song stuck with me during the Beavis and Butthead days and I still enjoy it
8. Human Behavior by Bjork; as a teen I was slightly terrified and slightly aroused by Bjork, but also this is a good song
9.a. Flute Loop by Beastie Boys; as fun as they get from Beasties; when my oldest was a baby we had a onsie with the line “I get funky like diaper rash”
9.b Root Down (free zone mix) by Beastie Boys
10.a Three to Get Ready by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
10.b Flowers of Herself by Max Richter; I never learned music so my exposure has come later as my kids learn music. Not all the songs I enjoy are as aggressive as most of those above. Most of the songs below need little commentary.
11. A Day in the Life by the Beatles
12. There, There (the boney king of nowehere) by Radiohead
13. Let Down by Radiohead
Lagniappe:
Still Rock and Roll to Me by Billy Joel; well before my time but I really like the throwback “rock” turned into a pop song, and apparently a lot of the songs I like pay homage to past eras
Under Cover of Darkness by the Strokes
Rock the Casbah by The Clash
Modern Love by David Bowie
In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel
