Barkley..again

Guess he preferred his years of warming the bench because he’s going to struggle to get into Villa’s midfield. Strange one.

Can't see how this is strange at all, been playing well all season Villa in the champions league will need a bigger squad, he is on a free and Villa won't be hit with FFP, it's win win for them.

Just wish Everton had something about them with our ambition, rather than signing Ashley Young on a 12 months deal, while spurs release Sessingon LB on a free

Couldn't recall one of the stinging comments Conte made about him. Just looked it up.

On the whole that makes me sad; I'm sure Barkley didn't see his career turning out this way. I guess he got caught up in the hysteria with Stones and Lukaku but maybe this all proves everyone was right about him. On the one hand, you'd think all of this experience would make him wiser and the right fit for Everton in this moment. On the other hand, I'm not sure anyone really believes that is true, which has really been the problem all along.

They’ve got to get through the two qualifying games first.

No.

Aside from the history, he's the wrong age profile and lacks athleticism.

And then there's the history. He absolutely screwed the club and therefore the match day crowd at Goodison would (rightly) absolutely hound him. A toxic scenario we would be wise to avoid.

At least when he was at Goodison before he showed he could handle the pressure of the home crowd...

I made a thread last year asking if you would have him back, what’s your opinion now?

He’s had a great season at Luton, would walk into our team in my opinion. I also want James back so maybe I’m just bored of no skill in the team.

Utftt

Yes

And just because he's a rat who sold us down the river and made continual snidey digs...

Bring a blue home

He's available on a free so he's in our price range. Contributes more than Onana, I'd take him if his wages are Luton level.

I really don't like picking fights on this fine forum, but it's detritus like this that keeps me in the ale house and out of the main forum. If you can't see Onana's talent then fine we can disagree, but if you think Barkley offers more than him you need to schedule an eye appointment.

He’s clearly talented and he is a blue. Would he walk into the team? Probably yes. Would he thrive under Dyche? Probably yes.

As I mentioned to @davek in the other thread, does he have a rep as a walloper? Yes.

If Dyche could sort him out and he’d be quality then yeah, I’m just a bit reticent due to his previous behaviour but then I was prepared to welcome Rooney back. On the other hand Rooney had considerably more talent to justify that but then I don’t think we’re in much of a position to choose at the moment what with finances etc.

Massive fence-sitting effort from me essentially.

In his last 2 years at Everton Barkley had 13g + 16a in 74 appearances.
Since leaving, over 7 years at Chelsea, Aston Villa, Nice, and Luton he's had 17g +16a in 141 appearances
MASSIVE SWERVE

….its fine having the quality in possession we desperately need but he’s not capable of doing the difficult side of the game that Dyche demands, just as the likes of Guardiola demands at Man City.
