Basketballs lack of popularity in the UK relative to the rest of Europe

I mean, the English language is a pretty fair achievement. Shakespeare ain't gonna need anyone stepping up to bat for him...

And I for one am all in for the glitz and glam of the cheerleaders...
As an englishman fondness of understatememt I wasn't with you with the glitz and glam until you mentioned cheerleaders

You have to look at a few things here. I am speaking from what I see here in Greece. All the Basketball teams go hand in hand with the football clubs.... This doesn't happen in the UK. There is very little green space (if any) in local schools for playing fields. What they have is an area in a school playground to put up a Basketball court for the exercise purposes of the children. Hey Presto...........

What is Net ball? (Asks an American)

Imagine basketball minus all the good bits, played at a snail's pace with zero intensity combined with arguably the most underwhelming scoring you will see in professional sport.

More skillful than basketball though apparently

Like I said ... a target to help you score because the yanks gotta see big numbers like a kid has to see colourful sweets ... easier to move with the ball than to think where you need to move off the ball. I've played both, basketball is more exercise, netball far more challenging.
Unlike in netball where the defender has to stand a metre away so they can't block your shot...

Last Netball World Cup final: New Zealand 52–51 Australia - does this count as a big number? What does?

This might be true if it wasn't for the small fact of the other team trying to stop you doing exactly that.

Not sure this means anything, doesn't seem to have imbued you with any meaningful insight.

How is it more challenging?
The yanks get a game like netball and dumb it down to make it easy to play for simpletons eg - have a backboard to help you, let you move with the ball rather than think and move off the ball etc.
"However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Baer had asked James Naismith, the Canadian inventor of basketball, to send her a copy of the rules, and Baer's errors resulted in what marked the beginning of the development of a separate sport."
