Because of the threat of players being booked.

There’s a difference between promoting a political viewpoint and supporting basic human rights. One is political the other isn’t. I’m sorry you don’t see that.

It's not a matter of what I see or dont see. The only thing of relevance in a FIFA tournament is their rules:

FIFA’s explicit rules on political statements in those matches and competitions falling under FIFA’s direct and in direct jurisdiction focus in particular on the display of messages on clothing....the basic compulsory equipment to be used by each player (comprising playing jersey, shorts, stockings, shinguards and footwear), which in turn is furthered by a decision of the International FA Board clarifying Law , which states that:

“the basic compulsory equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images… The team of a player whose basic equipment has political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images will be sanctioned by the competition organiser or by FIFA.”

National associations have the option of boycotting the entire event if they feel strongly about it.

If I was unclear, I was referring to the contrast between the two teams' behavior, not to your own commentary.

One team engages in a de facto demonstration that could result in serious legal consequences for the players, and the other team cancels its planned de facto demonstration for fear of being booked. Woof.

Aye, apologies, wires crossed there

I’d take the mass booking
The UK desperately needs to remain on good terms with Qatar as they give them many billions of pounds each year to buy weapons, military equipment and investment in London real estate, etc.

The FA will not do anything to jeopardise that relationship and will be under strict orders to comply with whatever ridiculous requests come in from Qatar.

Every country will bend over for these stone age kin carts, as proven already.

Complete and utter cowardly shitbag filth.
Whilst the Iranians have probably chosen torture and death. This lad has lead his privileged and indulged "men" away from the danger of .....?a yellow card.
Principles are easy when it's safe. Progress is made by defending those principles in the face of danger.
