Beckham--Donovan

The thing that makes me laugh is, hes having a go at Beckham for basically fooking off to Milan, when he himself went to Munich.

Ive watched MLS, I can see why Beckham cant be bothered trying to play, ive seen better conference games. Its a terrible league.

So I guess its OK that VDM took a piss b/c after all he played for Inter and compared to them we are some pissy backwater club so why bother????

Oh and the galaxy encouraged Donovan to go, because of the salary cap they wanted to bring in defensive players.

Beckham is far too good for the MLS, probably Donavan is as well. If you really think the MLS isnt a bad league, explain why the "best" American players play abroad?

Becks will be back in Milan by their new season, he told me anyway.

He needs to get out quickly, he's basically took American football onto a new level now anyway with the attention they got. He was boss for Milan when he went on loan although got very tired towards the end, really gave them a different edge to their game.

Its a s($% league (and all american footie fans want the best American players to go to Europe), and until they could build the league up to a point that you could have 15-20M US rosters it probably always will be. That doesn't mean you take a piss all over it especially when your making more than the entire league combined and when you annoint yourself as the man who's going to do everything in his power to promote footie in the states. That being said even if he didn't promote the game that's OK but its not hard to show up for a couple hours a day, train hard, play hard for 90min, and then go hang with your buddies. IF that's all Beckham did, I wouldn't critize him. When he actually did try (for oh the 1st 8 matches) he did bring an excitement into the league that wasn't here, and put butts in the seats. The fans at his games dwindeled out to pre-Beckham levels in Beckham games not becasue the novelty dwindled but becasue no one was going to pay money to see a player who I would say mailed it in but that would be an offense to postal workers.

Plus as I said before. MLS isn't playing hardball, they only want 15M US for him and if Beckham wanted to he could easily buy himself out. But no he wants to collect his paycheck here without even bother to play for 1/2 season either.

what happened the last 2 times everton played american clubs? i know form and such has a major impact and they were midseason whereas we were preseason, but honestly i think MLS deserves a bit more respect than you give it.

Toxy said "when is he going to prove himself in a top league" but how is MLS supposed to get better if players like donovan don't stick around? i think everyone is being really harsh on donovan here, he just loves his club (yea believe it or not, we still love our "$hite" clubs in the US) and he doesn't want prettyboy taking advantage of it without showing any kind of commitment. his comments don't even sound like he's upset about the Milan trip in itself, just more of what it signifies when looked at along with all his other slipups.

not showing up to a game if you're suspended is unacceptable, and by the sound of it beckham doesn't work all that hard in training or anything either, Donovan is just trying to impose some standards of work ethic on his club, and he doesn't feel Beckham conforms to them.

also notice donovan barely even mentions Milan in his attack, it sounds like he's mad about his teammate not trying, which is why he says its "******* miserable", theres really no reason to bring the milan part into this discussion

A peculiar situation, not your normal player valuation in his case, going back to an earlier point - what is a player worth?

He's under contract, and easily worth millions to them in merchandising. They will want big money to let him go to Milan to offset what they will lose.

A player's worth what someone's willing to pay...(y)

If you want to see a crap league come see the A-league. It's fantasic if you like crap players and burned out stars of yesteryear. Come play for us Beckham.

HRH Becks will be back playing for a european side before the turn of the year, we all have to go through the pain of him getting himself selected for another world cup yet. Could he eventually become the football ambassador of the world? I am sure hello/ok/$$ magazine will be in from the start.

Milan payed 10 million US for a 5 month loan, is it so ridiculous to ask for 15 million?

They just sold their key player for 65M€... do you really think they'll be offering 15M dollars for Beckham? Yeah, right.

If what you're saying is true about the amount they paid for the loan, that would make him a 25M dollars player....

Like Onslow used to say "Ohh, nice...":D
