Beer, revisited

Hey hey, it's a dunkel! I dig dunkels! You don't find a lot of German-style dark lagers coming out of American breweries so I suppose it's little surprise that this one was brewed by the family that got chased out of Austria by the Nazis and brought Julie Andrews along with 'em. That's right, it's the Von Trapps of The Sound of Music fame. They arrived in America as refugees, opened the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont, and more recently began brewing lagers up there. The lodge and brewery/taproom are located just a few miles up the road from the Alchemist brewery, whose outstanding Heady Topper IPA was mentioned by @Spadge Vernacular just a few pages ago. Both joints are well worth your time should you find yourself in Stowe. Cheers!

Wait, they're a few miles up the road from The Alchemist??

oh, wait, was thinking Hill Farmstead. That place is literally in the middle of nowhere. I lived in Albany NY for a bit and wanted to take a trip up there. Mind you, it's about half an hour to the Vermont border or so from where I lived. FIVE HOURS! ONE WAY! How is ANYTHING that far in Vermont?!

Bog standard lager - sub thread.

So when your in the supermarket, choices are slim, its barbecue season during a lockdown for example. Decent lagers for a weekend sesh.
Post Shift Pilsner by Jack's Abby, a lager brewery located in Framingham, Massachusetts, is one of my utility beers. It's an all-malt, no-adjuncts pils, crisp and a bit lemony. Love the stuff and I usually have some on hand. Looks something like this:

We've just nailed a four pack of Asahi, not bad at all. I'd also say Staropramen and Estrella Damm, Holsten Pils if i was really stuck.

Go.
Can you still buy that?

(BUT if someone hands me one I'll certainly accept a PBR or a Schlitz and say thank you very much.)
If anyone hands me most beers (even lager, even Bud FFS) I'd drink them to be fair (but I wouldn't buy them). However, I once poured a bottle of Blandford Fly (ginger based beer) down the sink (yuk). The only ever time I've done that is with some wheat beer that my father-in-law once bought.

Good morning mate hope you are having a lovely morning.

Been to that place several times. They do some good beers. I do like that pilsner

My brother lives near there.

Nice. They have good food at the beerhall too, as you may well know. Their beers are also a great combo of quality and value, with their flagships coming in around ten bucks per sixer of 16oz cans. So many dinky new breweries have been putting out four-packs of 16oz cans for $15-18 over the past couple of years that if it weren't for stalwarts like Jack's Abby I'd be getting priced out of beer. Priced out of beer. Our nation has lost its way.

But you're in the San Diego area, right? That's one of the national epicenters of hoppy brews itself.

Heh. I'd drink a Bud to be polite but if the person who gave it to me left the room for a moment, I'd probably look for a houseplant to dump it into. Bud products have always given me a prompt headache for some reason. Plus they taste like industrial effluent.
