If a pub stocks Bass nowdays, you`re safe in knowledge that it`s a pub that`s passionate about beer that all of their other beers will be top notch too.

Beer festival in Port Sunlight next week.

Before kick off today, I'm off to the Ship for a pint or two. It's just a shame their kitchen doesn't open till 2 as I feel like a bowl of their scouse too.

We've had a Lidl open nearby. Called in to get some bratwurst and grabbed a few bottles of this for £1.26 a pop. Very nice it is too.

I`ve never been a fan of their beers tbh.

Yeah they are definitely style over substance, what with their fancy names and quirky advertising.

Having said that I used to like Elvis Juice before they reduced it from 6.5% to 5.1%.

Visited three dens of iniquity today.

Love Lane Brewery : Hipsters' paradise, and also seem to be populated by an inordinate amount of construction workers, which doesn't bode well. Tried :

It was delicious, but outrageously expensive at £4.20 for a 'schooner', which was little more than a glass in old money.

Popped into the Dispensary and had a couple of :

Nice session beer, tasty and very quaffable.

The nicest was from my local, and if there hadn't been an excellent chippy next door more would have been drunk.

I had Salopian's 'Darwin's Origin' recently. Very nice.

Their darker beers are much better than their lighter beers. Always been the way really, apart from the fact they have stopped making a lot of their better darker beers

Silky smooth, creamy imperial stout with a delicious aniseed finish. Ace.

I live in Colorado now, and left hand is one of my favorites. Bit of a drive to get to the brewery but worth it. They make a seasonal White Russian (might need to rename that now) nitro stout that’s tremendous but their classic milk stout is still one of the best there is.

I found a French Toast Stout by a brewery north of Dallas (903 is their telephone area code). Tastes delicious but 12.7% ABV. You drink one of these and your session is over.

I read about that over the weekend, apparently there`s a pretty big campaign to keep it open.

There`s also a Gofundme to try and raise the 100k needed to get it back on it`s feet again.

I`ll be throwing some money in, as pubs like this are the pubs that need preserving for the nation.

Exactly how many pubs claim to be the oldest in the UK? I've seen at least three, probably more.
