Phone died on my beer excursions yesterday but wound up on an afternoon session in The Llandogger Trow, a 17th century dockside ale house, that had been a sorley neglected property for a long time under Brewer's Fayre. I'd heard rumblings of a change of ownership and sure enough Bloomsbury are steering the old ship in a new direction. With some 30+ beers on the bar including a solid core of German lagers and a nice line in rum based cocktails.

Had a pint of Timothy Taylor Mild, another brown ale, and a Blood Orange IPA.
I'm really pleased to see its coming back to its rightful place as a must visit on the competitive Bristol pub scene after closing in 2019, and its no doubt that the explosion of the other King Street power houses has forced it to up its game.
If you're local, visiting or revisiting
@Lanolin please drop by and have a tankard. This 350 year old tavern is steeped in legend, Blackbeard is said to have been a regular, Robert Louis Stevenson based the Admiral Benbow on the Llandogger and Daniel Defoe wrote Robinson Crusoe after drinking with Alexander Selkirk here. Its also haunted by some 15 ghosts. I'll be returning for their twice a month sea shanty night and their motto is:
Drinking rum at 10 am doesn't make you an alcoholic, it makes you a pirate.
Now that's a pub.
