Allan and Doucoure were shocking v Liverpool and offer nothing defensively and this puts Huge pressure on Gomes all round game imo
I dont see a long term future for Allan and Doucoure.

Gomes, his legs have gone.I think the same midfield 3 would be better next week. Gomes and Allan were returning from injuries.
I've thought about it and decided I'd like to keep the same midfield 3, considering we are making a change on the left already and probably at right back.
With Godfrey confirmed at right back, I might have to think this could be a Wally Pip scenario. Pip was the first basemen for the New York Yankees and was a star. One game he doesn’t feel well after a long night of drinking and takes the day off. His backup: Joe DiMaggio one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Pip rarely saw the field again. Clearly a different scenario with Coleman being hurt, but if Godfrey impresses I think he could stick at RB permanently.
I see some similarities with Joloen Lescott, who played a lot of his early football at left back for us (and actually kept Leighton Baines out). He also got called up to the England squad in that position, while Jagielka and Yobo formed a formidable centre back partnership.
Lescott was a bit taller but simialrly well built, came in at 23 for us and was good at defending but could also carry the ball. I always liked him at left back to be honest and the team did well there. If you are Godfrey, you just want to get yourself into a winning team first, then over time make a case to play centre back.
As for us, I think it probably helps us too, extra height at set peices and also gives James that free role ahead of him.

Am i remembering right that when Jags came to us he played mostly as a central midfilder/right back for Sheff Utd.
Interesting comparison, hope he scores a similar amount of goals.
Yes. I think Yobo and Stubbs played before that, but then Jagielka came in.
Really? I think there is zero chance of him starting ahead of Kenny when he’s fit. It’s all academic anyway, by the time Kenny is up to speed Coleman will be back - shame for the lad.Glad he'll get a run of games, can't see JJK ousting him even when fit. Be good to see what he can do.
