I need my midfielders to be better than ok.
They are very good players, Holgate and Godfrey, but they don't have enough ball and technical skills to thrive in midfield.
I see neither playing much time in the middle of the park in the future.

Holgate and Godfrey are both excellent on the ball. Godfrey has found his secondary position at fullback as far as I’m concerned, so I wouldn’t be pushing for him to be an option in centre midfield.
But I think Holgate does have what it takes to fill in at DM when we’re as short there as we will be tomorrow night.
Neither will let us down, both great lads to have around the squad, from what I can see.
Yes. Ultimately we’re talking about emergency cover, as opposed to ideal players for these positions.
I can’t remember a better suite of footballing CBs in our squad, ever. I’m much more comfortable with the thought of these lads filling in where they need to than I would be to see Jagielka, say, do the same.
