We gave so many soft corners away yesterday that wouldn’t have been happening if he was playing.

Exactly my thought during the game. The rugby team relied on corners and I was moaning because we kept giving away corners. We need more dh with attitude and aggression (the right way not getting the red card one). Some of our players gave them too much respect and being too “polite” when they kicked James around for every 30s.

I think he’s one of Carlo’s go to first team players now even at leftback. His defensive capability is so much better than Digne’s and it really showed against Newcastle just how many corners the two fullbacks kept giving away. Holgate and Godfrey just head stuff away or block it out for throw ins.

Very impressed just then when Sigurdsson sold him massively short. Didnt engage just backed off and cut out the space and reassessed. Very good positioning. Mina would have gone after that 100% and opened the space for them.
