I think if you come on cold, as a sub, and need a few minutes to get up to the speed of the game - especially at a time when you’re a defender and the oppo are chasing an equaliser - you’re going to get found out. We know he’s a boss player, who just had a stinker at a really inopportune time.

My fume lies solo with Carlo and his silly third sub on this one. King running around like a headless chicken at RW would have at least given their attackers down that side one more thing to think about, rather than JPG stood in the middle of the park doing less than nothing.
He come on whilst we were defending a corner.
Thought that was an unwritten rule that you don’t make subs in that situation.

Can not blame BG for the goal. We have numerical balance. If you pause the video at 1.23 you can see how awful our defensive structure is.

It should not really be possible at this level. Distances and positions between the lines and within the lines are simply chaos. We are clearly in a positional imbalance, and completely forget to defend the most important area on the field. Look at Keane's body profile and where he's looking. He should also never press inwards in the field.

When it comes to Crystal Palace, they have trained a lot of Rondos under Hodgson, which I did not see coming, but this is a typical movement pattern, and Crystal Palace performs a third line pass. The pass opens up for a 2 vs. 1 situation, which becomes quite simple when Keane completely loses his head.

Keane made a mistake to move forward and Godfrey is massively out of position. They are both at fault and should both be doing better.

I dislike the way we put young players on a pedestal after a limited number of games and then change our minds and start looking for faults in every aspect of their games.

Ben Godfrey gas been a very good signing and Marcel Brands as DOF gets huge credit for it.

But,Ben Godfrey will make mistakes, he will go through bad patches and we should accept that now and balance our opinion of him in a more reasonable way.

If you watch Olsen he also does not need to come out as far as he did, the whole thing was a calamity or errors tbh.

Yeah it's probably a tougher shot for Batshuayi if the keeper stays on his line but that's how they are coached to try and narrow the angle.

It's a terrible goal to concede and there are two big defensive mistakes there before even mentioning the keeper. It's a simple channel ball and our full back has gone missing and the centre half has stepped out of the defensive line. It's the classic example of a player compounding the original error.

Disagree, we are in good numerical balance. Do not remember why he was so high in the field, but when you play with 5 behind, it is completely normal that the wingback comes high and presses the opponent. This is one of the advantages of playing with 5 at the back, so that you are always in numerical balance in the middle.

It's Mina and Godfrey at fault for me. Mina has to be tighter to his man before the ball comes into his feet, he has time to turn and pick a pass, Keane has to go over to Zaha thus leaving Godfrey to deal with him man and he's miles out of position.

Disagree with this massively, to be honest. Think people are just saying it because Neville did on the post-match coverage. Batshuayi was 10 yards out, Olsen comes off his line to narrow the angle, international striker scores past him. The idea that that’s an error and he’s somehow to blame is a strange one to me. But eh, I know nothing about goalkeeping.

As I first said, there are clear structural problems, and here there are many. That is why Mina also comes up in the press too late.

But we are still in numerical balance. Keane, who has to concentrate / compress, when Mina is to press, but instead pushes inwards in the field, breaks out of his line, leaving a large room for Bats.

Keane has a completely wrong body profile, and only looks at the ball (Something he does all too often), and loses his defensive reference.

If Keane stays with Batshuayi then Zaha is completely unmarked and has a run at goal. I think the entire defence should've done better there, but you cannot sit here and deny that Godfrey wasn't at fault positionally for that goal. He's just casually jogging back to position when the game bypasses him with one pass.

Maybe he should have run home a little faster. But other than that, I can not see him making any major mistakes. Keane pushes inwards in the field, not against Zaha. Which gives Bats a lot of space. He is a far greater threat than Zaha, in that situation. We have greater opportunities to handle that situation, but it is worse to rectify the situation with Bats.

I agree. I have mentioned what a talent he is but in the same breath have said he still looks raw. He will make mistakes and as long as he learns from those mistakes then we have an unbelievable prospect on our hands.

Should have been 3 goals up before this so his goal would not have mattered.
