I honestly think many peoples opinions are more hope than actual fact based.
He's error prone. And was error prone before this season.
Not given up on him. Not in the slightest. But he gets an easier ride than other defenders at this club because of that word again hope. He needs to become a bread and butter centre half and use what he has. Many great defenders down the years couldnt play. Franco baresi. Des walker.
But they used their strengths to their advantage and became defenders who were a pest to strikers and score against.
Godfrey has a good attitude and has pace. But he needs to read the game a lot better.
He's in good company mind. There isnt a decent defender at Everton. Not one.

Mina is good ... when fit

Mate. He had Kenny on one side of him, Holgate on the other, with Davis and Gomes "shielding" the defence and the reserve keeper in behind him.

Usually he has Mina or Keane in there with him talking him through games and helping him out, which is the way it should be given his age.

Bigtitez threw a lot of youngsters to the wolves last night, Godfrey did better than all of them

No mate. Bigtetez makes them run around LOADS, and a ten second clip of them training look FAR more intense than what Carlo had them doing.

He's almost in his mid twenties you know. Not 19.
But there is something there. Hell of a lot to learn though with decision and positional making.

That is blaming everybody else but making excuses for one player.
You could just as easily say that Holgate had no chance because he was alongside Godfrey and Kenny.
We saw who did well, others did badly because they were poor not because of the player next to them.

Players are allowed to have a bad patch..it happens.

His oversized reputation among our fans is based entirely on his recovery pace, which we have missed since Distin left. His ball playing ability and reading of the game is and has always been poor, that's why White got the nod over him for the England squad. We need to but a proper tall, strong ball playing CB beside him, only it must be a much better version of Mina.
