I know you've always been a fan of his Eggs and I certainly thought he had potential, but he can't head, or pass a ball, and in the modern game you have to be either the Centre half who can head, or the one who can bring the ball out, and he is neither. Not sure where his future lies, maybe as a backup full back or substitute DMC to bring on when you're trying to shut up shop.
Given what's happened with Iwobi I'd say there's a decent chance there's a lot more to come from Godfrey.

….I think that’s fair, Matey, I also think he’s weak aerially but we’ve had CBs like Ratcliffe and Jagielka who got away with not being the strongest headers of a ball. i also agree he needs to be more composed in possession but he’s certainly no worst than Holgate & tends to be ‘safe’ rather than reckless.

What I like is his raw physicality. Blokes like him are a nightmare to play against, but he’s just too full-on at the moment. I accept he’s been largely disappointing, but he’s the type who can get better with age (they calm down) and I’ve not given up on him.
He’s got raw physicality in terms of strength and speed, which is great but Lampard nailed his biggest issue in his press. conference yesterday. When under pressure you need defenders who can dominate the box and Godfrey is so poor at attacking the ball in the air, as is Holgate, they’re not going to be top defenders unless they massively improve there. Just don’t see it happening.

Aye. I'm advocating selling Mina, Keane and Holgate and giving Godfrey and Branthwaite a few more years to develop. Might require us to get in one new CB as cover to make it 5, but that's fine if we're offloading 3 of them.

Branthwaite will be a better CB, VaUlT mE.

He's got some of the qualities that we're saying here that Godfrey lacks, but needs to add a bit of physicality to his game, which he no doubt will.

Godfrey is good to have as he's athletic and technical *enough* to cover several roles when needs be. Jack of all trades, master of none and that.

When fringe players arnt getting linked to other teams it sort of shows you how good they are. Like Holgate Davies Godfrey Keane Rondon Townsend. Lucky to get shut of Alan, Gomes. Problem is atm we dont have the street cred or cash to keep anyone better than them as a backup.

He was off the boil last season. His best games have been at left back rather than centre back. He hasn’t stood out at CB to me.

At LB his runs were straight and direct. He reminded me of a rugby league player.

He has massive pace and that is a plus.

He needs proper coaching from Cole and the team. Then we can see whether he has anything.

No one other than the FSW has wanted Rondon for ages.

The others are either injured for quite a long time or were actually playing and got injured during that.

Doubt someone would sign injured Tom Davies even if they really liked him lol Or Godfrey with a broken leg like

At the risk of getting a severe kicking for being off topic, it occurred to me that:

Holgate Davies

Godfrey Keane, and

Rondon Townsend

sound a lot like 3 Eton graduates and Tory MPs.

Our best man marker ?

I think at worst case he's a very good option off the bench as cover across defence.
He has good recovery pace, maybe direct mam marking may be best for him because he does seem to get caught out of position and struggle to read the game. All that said those can be taught and learned and its good to see him on the path to recovery. Was gutted for him when he was injured.
